I donated to Relay for Life--I didn't cause cancer. AlabamaAubKiller, swing and a miss again.
I think the gesture is nice and think it is silly that many Auburn fans are acting like children about it. It doesn't give Bama rights to the gift (which would then be our property), it doesn't imply weakness by giving or receiving. It is a number of Bama alums and boosters trying to do what they think is the right thing and I applaud that.
It isn't my problem there are poor people, but I'm willing to help when I can. Some of the thoughts I've read here and other places shock me.
Let me see if I have this right, if an Iron Bowl in Auburn comes down to a last minute FG attempt by Bama and we miss, you are alright with TP being thrown into the trees. But should we make the FG and win, then you take issue with one of the Donors throwing TP into the trees? Presumably its about
"[your] property", right? There is no other issue beyond ownership then?
By "our", you mean the tax payers right? Because officially the trees are "owned" by either the state of Alabama, or Lee County, or the City of Auburn. (Even Auburn is tax-payer owned.) Since none of these bodies have objected to the throwing of TP in the past, a precedent has been established that doing so is alright to do.
But its an Auburn thing.
This is irrelevant. Either it is an acceptable way to express glee, or it is not.
But it would incite the Auburn fans.
And it doesn't incite the visitors every single time? Let us not lose track of right and wrong.
I'm sure the cops would have to be called, so Public Safety Concerns would force them to stop the visitors.
Interesting. Guess that goes both ways. Heaven forbid a group of Bama FratBoys roll up offended and looking for a fight. The cops would have to stop the tradition in this caswe. Heck, Updyke could have been more successful if he started a fight at Toomers over TPing the trees.
Highjacking our tradition is classless and disrespectful.
Agreed, 100%, but its no different than me having to listen to another team play "OUR" Ramma Jamma cheer against us...and I lived. Poor manners has never been that compelling of deterent.
Well donating does not buy the right to act like you own it.
True, but that applies equally to those wearing orange and blue. Plus, I'll remind you of the precedent established by the owners (i.e. government) that TPing is alright. If it is permitted and protected for one group, it is permitted and protected for another. (Its that whole Equal Protection Under the Law thing that applies to virtually everything.)
In the end Duder this whole thing is set up to be a test of our civility and control on the individual fan level. There is nothing but the choice to use good taste at play here. No Rules, Codes, or Laws. That is what I find interesting. Will Bama fans let Auburn's tradition resume without a scene from our side? Will Auburn fans resume this with the right focus -- that TPing Toomers is a celebration between/among Tigers or will they make it a act of defiance targeting Bama fans who may bear witness.
Will Auburn ever get the chance to test the theory with a victory over the Tide.
