I understand the term comes from fanatical but it seems todays "fans" of Alabama and Auburn are getting a little too big for their britches. Between hearing all the threats on public shows like PFB and rerading them from online forums, it's actually amazing nobody has shot someone yet over....football of all things. I'm as big of a fan as anyone else but it's stupid what some people will go to in todays world. I guess my parents raised me right and others...well....not so much.

Take the Tide fan that called in a while back bragging about poisioning the trees down at Toomer's Corner. First, how big of an idiot do you have to be to take things so seriously? Secondly how much bigger of a DA can you prove by publicly admitting to it on air?

Oh but don't fret. It seems the fans down on the Plains also have horticulture on their minds. Fitting being AU has that nice agriculture department and all. But I stumbled on this on one of my local forums and once again, I'm ashamed of yet another Alabanian native taking things too far over football....

If we don't like it, we shouldn't lose to them.

In college a friend of mine had an Alabama fan pull a knife on him at the IB in 1993. Later that night I saw a guy get a bottle broken over his head in a parking lot for wearing an Alabama hat. I love football as much as the next guy, but not as much as I love my freedom, or my sense of human decency.

Maybe I'm just old.....

That same year I put a tiger tail on one of the Million Dollar Band's buses as they left Auburn. It's a much better burn and no crime was committed.

nicely said.

to the OP, right vs wrong and how a person is raised, it's a prank....and a damn good one. when did bama fans get so flipping sensitive...jeeze.

Oh so now I'm sensative? Is it because I was mentioning trees and plants ? I'm not that kinda guy!!! Seriously though if you only knew me lol....

The point I was making is that people do some pretty stupid chit these days. I can't remember back far enough when it was ever this bad. I'm not speaking about the plants and trees, I'm speaking about the general venom each fanbases is spewing so much these days. I go over on some unmention AU boards from time to time and they stuff some say are just nuts. People talking about spying on kids at college and all sorts of crazy crap. We're no saint either as we all know there are crazies in every fanbase. It just seems that in todays world, it's become grously unavoidable. I remember watching a video a while back of Penn St fans and some other school that is one of their rivals. These PSU fans were throwing unopened cans of beer onto what seemed like some innocent opposing team fan leaving a game. Why?

Sorry Porter to disagree but this isn't about winning or losing. We could win for a decade and there will always be issues with overly fanatical....well.....fans. I just step back sometimes and I'm amazed at how stupid both schools' fanbases act towards one another. I remember years ago when the rivalry wasn't as disgusting as it's become today. Yes I love seeing Auburn choke and I'll pull for ANY team that they are playing against, but at some point one has to remember that this is a game (as hard as that is for even me to say).

FWIW I laughed when I saw this picture too. How can you not? But I also realized just how sad some people really are in life. The same for that moron Bama fan that did the chit on Toomer's Corner.

I mean i may be wrong but back in the ealry part of the the last century wern't
collage pranks by students & fans alike pretty much the norm? As long as they were harmless
what did it really matter. It adds spice to the whole us vs them rivalry. And as long as no one gets hurt
it's all good.

But i tell you right now and i know faor a fact that every one here can vouch for it 1st hand at
some point in their lives. We've all seem ppl get married, divorced, and born because of this one game
beetween the 2 schools. I have seen knock down drag out bar room brawls over it. Literaly
had to call the cops becuse me & the other bouncers were over whellmed. Ppl have beem shot, stabed and even killed
over this. When i lived out west ppl thought i was a liar. they couldn't belive it. But it's true.

As long as it doesn't escalate to violance i'm ok with it. ( 15 yrs ago though i'd been fighting right along with them & DID)
Now i'm older, wiser, and not so eager to scuff my knucled on anything that don't envolve a wrench from sears.
But harmless pranks are fine in my book. And as long as it don't include jail time hell i might even participate! lol
While i realise some of the more UPITY Alumi might kinda look down on us run of the mill-never-attened UA, blue collar
fans....and lable it as class less...you ppl wipe you buts the same way the rest of us do. At the end of the day it's all
in fun and we all bleed crimson in our own way. So to that bunch i saw take your BS since of entitlement and shove it.
I carry a pair of heavey duty scicors in my truck for the sole purpose of cutting tiger tails off barner cars. been doing it for years and i doubt i'll stop.
Roll Tide.

^^Good points. i guess it's the age in me and my 1 YO daughter and family that makes me look at things a little different. 10 years ago I'd be just as guilty as the ones I'm talking about. I've done my share, sometimes I got caught, others not so much.

I think the fanbases being so negative towards each other is called a RIVALRY. I'm not into violence over a school, but I have no issue with pranks, ribbing, etc as long as nobody gets hurt. Alabama and Auburn is mild compared to the Red Sox and Yankees rivalry and some might even say the OSU and Michigan rivalry. The violent ones in any rivalry is caused by getting people together that combined don't have the iq of 20.

The passion of each fan base is what makes the rivalries so great. My 6 yr old son and 8 yr old daughter know that we don't like Auburn and that nothing Auburn will ever be in this house, the vehicles, etc. For Christmas this year my son wanted to buy our Pastor's wife (Auburn grad and obviously fan) a Alabama hat, t-shirt, or something, so we bought her a Alabama shirt, hat, and a Big Al wall cling (fathead kind of thing).

Totally agree with you Bama Jamma. And to say - if I'm reading it correctly - ..that we shouldn't lose then....... kinda sounds like it's the players who are in on it too.

Regardless, fan action that breaches public and personal safety, and/or defaces or destroys personal and/or private property should not be tolerated. Taking your rage out on others and the property of others is nothing more than stooopidity; showing cowardice, insecurity, and Neanderthal level of EQ (emotional quotient). Hell son.... you wanna act like a tough guy? Then BE a tough guy - put down that weed killer, set down your beer bottle and fit into some military fatigues, pick up a rifle, and take the first flight over into Afghanistan for a 3-year term.

Yeah... I thought so.

Yeah... I thought so.

I dont think someone pulling a prank like that is trying to be a tough guy. So I dont really think we need to challenge him to serve. Heck for all we know maybe he already has.

Like Terry said its probably just a kid having some fun. Relax.

Have you never pulled a prank on anyone?

This thread really makes Bama fans look petty and overly sensitive to this stuff. Which in turn would invite more of it.

BDS is not the Holy Cross...it is not literally a sin...offensive at most. With that perspective in mind, it is childish. It is not perminent or excessively destructive. That notes, if this was a High School kid, then it was an impressive prank. If it was anyone aged 25 or older, it was not impressive as a prank...and childish.

Calling something childish doesn't mean you're sensitive. It just means you think it's childish...and it is. I'm not upset by it, it's just as Saban would say "it is what it is." Just because something is harmless or fun doesn't mean it isn't childish. And trust me, I'm not above being childish myself.

LOL I love how some seem to think I'm some sensitive green peace guy. To repeat, I too laughed a little inside when I first saw the pics. I could of easily made this thread without including the pics of the grass and without mentioning the dumbass UA fan who messed with the trees at Toomer's Corner. In hindsight I should of probably done so....but you know what they say about hindsight....

Again, what some fail to understand is the point I was making in that todays fans are pretty embarrasing to their own fan base because of how crazy things have progressed over the years. I mean if you guys are OK with people making threats over the air to people and online then I guess that's your kind of thing. To me, it's petty, along with fan bases bragging about "class". This kind of immature mentality spews over from the behind the "keyboard commando" persona or airwaves and into public settings.

A prime example...

I know I know. It's just a rivalry so it's OK or acceptable? It's just kids right?

Or this is cool too? (BTW that is someone within UA that did that to an USCe fan while they were detained)...

Those are better examples of the point I was trying to make.

Now to get back on the grass thing and on a less serious note. Yes that's not my yard but I do have respect for others property. If I were a betting man I'd say many of you all would not feel the same if some kid in your neighborhood poured rock salt in your lawn in some disrespectful manner or egged your car. If so, care to send me your address so I can pay some kid $5 to come do it? It would be worth the $5 just to see if you'd actually go thru with it. Any takers?

Am I the only one wondering if the guy had the rye grass seeds (assuming it's rye because of the season) in his pocket? Did he have something strapped to his leg? Don't tell me he had a bag with him and did it...that's brazen.

To me it is just a "sophmorish" prank. I had my brother -in-law and nephew (both Barners) to spray paint my drive after the horrific 11-12 sack game that Brodie Croyle got abused in. They thought it was a "hoot". In the end, I got the last laugh! My father-in-law saw the result of the drive and didn't find it too amusing. He had them both out with a pressure washer and steel brushes getting their "art work" off of the driveway.

And ppl thought i was kidding last season when i said we should go paper the AU bus in Montgomery
every Fri. night with Monopoly money. bein gthat they stay inthe hotel here before most of theyre away games.
I was deadly serious. I still may do that or somthing similar. And i don't personaly care how childish or inmature it makes me looks.
Unless i get caught in the act......who's gona know how old i am? lol and ya gota admit...that'd be pretty damn funny.

It's true. The weed-killer thing was a pretty harmless kid's prank. I'm just glad nobody caught him in the act. Then violence could have ensued.

We always remind our young grandsons to watch the players after the games. They are shaking hands and congratulating guys from the other team. It used to be called sportsmanship.

A lot of the anger and meanness I see on say, al.com for instance, is because of the anonymity of the posters. People say all kinds of awful things at a keyboard they'd never say in person. And the fans get flamed (no pun intended).

Finally, some of us have Auburn fans marry into the family. Geez. He such an excellent human being in every other way. We have to live with them, even as we secretly teach their children the Bama fight song.

I like what SilverMetalFlake said. Very good, sir.

I think, though, I'd enjoy cutting some tiger tails off cars. 'Specially these days. But I could never do it. I am somebody's grandmother.
