šŸ“” This Week, 60 Years Ago: Bear Bryant signs a 10-year contract with Alabama worth $17,500 a year.

ā€œThe old lessons (work, self-discipline, sacrifice, teamwork, fighting to achieve) aren’t being taught by many people other than football coaches these days. The football coach has a captive audience and can teach these lessons because the communication lines between himself and his players are more wide open than between kids and parents. We better teach these lessons or else the country’s future population will be made up of a majority of crooks, drug addicts, or people on relief.ā€...........Coach Bryant

We're there for sure.......................

Coach Bryant never accepted much salary during his entire tenure at the Capstone. But he sure owned that place and the state of Alabama in every sense of the word.

Very true. I remember reading the Administration "made" Coach Bryant take a raise because his salary was so far behind other coaches at that time. I believe Joe Pa was in the same boat at PSU.

That was a lot of money back then. He made more with Chesterfield and golden flake ads. He also built a great dynasty and had outside business deals in many industries. My hounds tooth hat tipped to him.
