šŸ“ The Portal Watch 2020-2021: Florida's Emory Jones announces intent to enter the transfer portal

Case in point:

AAMU under Connell Maynor has been pretty good about getting players from D1. There are ton of kids each year, that choose to sign with major school instead of giving smaller school such as UNA, AAMU, Jackson, Jacksonville State, USA, UAB, etc... (I'm just throwing the names as an example). Those kids think going to Alabama and has enough talents to beat out other players... usually after a year or 2, they realize it's never going to happen, so they enter the transfer portal, and doesn't get attention, so they drop down a level and boom, AAMU, Jackson get to eat.

Some kids need harsh wake up call: if you go from scholarship at D1 to walk on at AAMU, then you simply either messed up or you aren't that good.
You must be up here in North Alabama area. Yeah this if done the right way could be good for the player and these smaller schools.

Oh he has missed plenty on JUCO players.

Micheal Ricks
Brandon Lewis
Aaron Douglas
Duron Carter
Ty Flournoy-Smith
Jamar King
Ronald Williams
Leon Brown
Charles Baldwin
Jonathan Taylor <- That was a messed up situation

On fence: Khyree Jackson He has to win the starting CB spot this fall....
Aaron Douglas? Dude.

Looking back over the years, when Saban used JUCO players quite a bit. When has Saban missed on a player? He can evaluate talent like no other, and when the kid has played college ball, it almost is a shoe-in that they will start if Saban is willing to burn a scholly on a player. Transfer portal is the new JUCO route. When CNS sees you against D1 competition.........safe bet, they will fit the need they are being recruited for, and immediately.

I was kind of thinking the same thing. Homeboy would have definitely started. He was a beast during spring that year.

Most (not all) of the others could be categorized as behavioral issues and not so much as talent. That is always the biggest issue that Saban seems to face......ie Duron Carter. Kid is lot like Billingsley. You can play and everything I'm doing is to try and help you become the best you can be on and off the field. Some guys just don't get it.

If you recall, he played that spring on a broken foot. Well, an "unrepaired" broken foot...whatever you medical guys call that. He broke his foot in '09 and it was at the end of spring camp in '11 when it was discovered. If it wasn't for the versatility of Barrett, Aaron likely would have had the left tackle spot.

...and they're still working on the 85. Wild, isn't it?

I fell down a rabbit hole last week looking at the 3⭐ guys on the roster.

In this thread about guys transferring in Jackson's mentioned. He's one and is competing for a starting role: he's definitely getting a lot of snaps next season. Reichard is another. We don't know where Seth is going to land; at the least he's the sixth offensive lineman, right? Ouzts? He's in the two deep going into spring I'd think. Then there's Shor who we don't know a lot about.

There's the "bottom end" of retention.

FWIW, 49 on the roster were top 100 players coming out of high school. A lot of talent on campus right now.

Here's something I haven't thought about.

Cam. His locker has been cleaned out for awhile now and we're seeing reports he's not listed in the student directory.

If you're not enrolled you can't be in the transfer portal, right?

@It Takes Eleven new place to me I just tried yesterday...it's on E. Bay. I had the Tuna Tataki; really good. (I'm a bit partial to Marsh Hen Mill.) Their jalapeno dipping sauce for their grilled oysters is worth the taste. My friend had the lamb and clams...and she DIDN'T go wrong with that choice!! The outdoor seating was a bit chilly yesterday but nice for a few drinks before eating. I'm betting it'll fit your preferences based on where you've been. $$ - got out of there for a $100 for two.

That took a google; oddly specific in mention.
It's about like Anson Mills. I'm picky on it and it's worth the pettiness.

There is a HUGE difference between eating commercial grits versus those from specialty mills. Don't get me started on Carolina Gold rice...hell, even the rice flour makes a hell of a biscuit.

I've become a bit of a aficionado with shrimp and grits...or so I'm told.

The equivalent of crack for me... I won't let a spec go to waste.
