💬 The Lavar Ball saga continues

I saw those $500 sneakers the other day. What a waste of money! I'll be happy to not be a real baller than to waste my money on that crap.

So, this meddling dad had his billion-dollar deal rejected by the major brands, and then in the last week he has posted two very pricey pieces of footwear that look like...Well, like shit. Hmm...I think I can clearly see Nike, et al's point here.

Agree OldPlayer. I haven't heard the talking heads even mention where the shoes are made. The quality cannot be up to snuff. Is some cobbler working in their basement crafting these? I bet the kid wears some Nikes that he scribbles the BBB logo on. A pro can't risk playing at that level in inferior shoes. Let's see what happens when it's time for the rubber to hit the road...

Lolwut?

The hits keep on coming, @TerryP
Just flipped to ICYMI (Mike X2) to see John Daly's spot from yesterday and I caught a blurb about LeBatard getting an "extra five years on his career" due to what "Daddy Ball" has been saying. Knowing DL, I'm guessing he's been skewed six ways to Sunday.

Do we know if Daddy Ball is related to Kelly Washington (of past UT 'fame?')

There has to be some investment money they are working with from a private source. The price tag doesn't shock me, per se, due to what they are dealing with--large manufacturing versus a smaller company making these shoes.

I don't necessarily agree with some of his tactics, but I do love the guys hustle. He's got alot of people talking about the brand. I wouldn't mind seeing the traditional merchandise companies shook up a bit...

Mike and Mike spent a freakin hour talking about the dad and the shoe one day last week. All the while, reading texts and twitter posts from listeners telling this to stop giving this guy free PR. Nobody wants to hear those guys talking about Ball for an hour. I switched stations 5-6 times and when I'd come back, they were still talking Ball. Almost like ESPN wants the guy to be successful...

Coincidentally, it seemed like they were defending their habit(s) yesterday about spending so much time on one subject--to the point of getting on listeners nerves. Greeny seemed to justify it all by recalling the morning after The Sopranos finale and them spending four hours talking about the ending. I don't think their conversations would help or hurt BBB. I certainly don't think the audience for Mike and Mike fits what BBB is marketing. Don't know.

Personally, I would love to lock my fingers around greeny's throat and watch his eyes pop out. That pin head will say the exact same thing 17 times 3 different ways trying to make a point. ALL FLUFF and zero substance.

VIDEO: LaVar Ball Told Kristine Leahy to "Stay in Your Lane," Says Big Baller Brand Doesn't Need to Market to Women

“Stay in your lane,” Ball responded, while putting his hand up toward Leahy and turning to Cowherd. “I don’t even worry about her over there.”

“I don’t look over there because she scares me. Leave me alone. I’ll tell you, 400, 500 pairs.”

Later (at around the 10 minute mark of the audio), Lavar Ball also insulted Jason Whitlock, saying the only thing the FS1 personality should be able to comment on is snacks.

In short, the appearance was a disaster and Ball emerges as an even more toxic personality than was already painfully obvious. Leahy, on the other hand, should be commended for not backing down in the face of such flagrant disrespect.

Damn. Just damn.

That's a pretty scumbag thing to say.

#RespectTheHustle

I can't respect the hustle. That comment to Leahy is a case of misogyny if I've ever seen one. Yet, where is the outcry? Is he not receiving any due to race? I simply don't get why there isn't reaction when there's been reactions that were overboard to far less examples.

Classic example of why I stopped watching these shows years ago. Maybe it's me, but Leahy seemed like she was trying to sensationalize his comments. Turn this into something bigger, making it a women's issue or a fat issue. I kinda enjoy that someones taking the fight to these sports reporters who've thrived on creating nonsense drama.

Remind me again why Lavar is still on tv, not like this is the first time he's said/done something stupid.

I still stick to my thought, respect the hustle. Don't agree with how he's doing some of it. Lavar could probably work this 100% behind the scenes and be equally as productive, but he's chosen the brash, in your face, negative publicity path.

With regards to Kyrie, I think that whole thing was taken a bit outta context.

In all honesty, I really don't care about Lavar or his kids. But I do like that someone is doing something so different that it will have an impact on the future of marketing, sponsorship, licensing, etc. Will it be a positive or negative impact is yet to be seen. Not how I'd go about it, I'd let my kids do their own thing and stay outta their business unless they asked for help.
