for the past 5 years....yes.

also, ALABAMA has had 3 Maxwell Award winners in the past 6 seasons.....AJ (1st one for BAMA), Derrick, and Tua.

I consider conference championship games as postseason. Only two teams per conference get to participate in order to determine playoff seeding and bowl selections. Everyone participates during the regular season.

I always scratched my head at the "don't send votes in until after the conference championship games" thing too. Unfortunately, many (some with Heisman votes) subscribe to that way of thinking, which is really the only reason Tua might not win. The way the system is set up is all over the place like bird shit. Until they explicitly define what exactly constitutes the "regular" season and hold every voter to that standard, we just have to deal with it.

It is a highly subjective award. My personal view on it is that if I am happy when an Alabama player wins then I cannot get angry at the process when an Alabama player doesn't win. I hope Tua wins but if Murray wins I am not going to be mad and go on a rant belittling his accomplishments. I've seen Alabama fans say that Tua is at a disadvantage with stats because the defense plays so well and then go on to "poohpooh" Murray's stats because OU defense is so bad. Too me that is insane. Both players are performing at an extremely high level and both deserve praise for their accomplishments.

A side note/question.

Do you guys consider the championship games (SECCG, ACCCG, et. al.) to be part of the regular season? Or, is it post-season?
I've always thought the reference to "an undefeated regular season" wouldn't include the championship game. Right?

I ask this because of one paragraph on the Heisman site—specifically, on how the balloting works.

The Trust respects the integrity and tradition of the most meaningful regular season in sports. As a result, the Heisman has always been a regular season award.

For the last two weeks we've heard "if they send their ballot in before the last week they should have their vote pulled." But, if the SECCG isn't a part of the regular season, and the award is for the regular season, what difference does it make if they sent in a ballot on the 30th of November versus the 3rd of December?

If it's "post-season," what difference does that one game make?
Just another one of those confusing things about how this award is awarded—as confusing as the integrity component.

Conference championships have always been considered an extension of the regular season. Why do I say this? Remember years back they didn't include bowl games in "official stats", well they always counted championship games.

For example, "officially" Shaun Alexander had 1,383 yards and 19 touchdowns in 1999, which includes his numbers all the way up to the SEC Championship. If they counted the bowl numbers it would have been 1,544 yards and 22 touchdowns.

I’m afraid Murray is going to be hoisting the trophy. Too many “media personalities” have hinted and all but said they voted for him because of the conference championship games. Tua won the mid-season Heisman but Murray became the sexy pick late in the season. Sucks, but I’m thankful and very happy he has been as good as he’s been this year. Led us with poise, dignity, determination, toughness and unselfishly. Even all we could ask for.

What concerns me are those with Bama hate / fatigue especially in the Mid-west that could vote Haskins ahead of Tua putting him in third place affecting his point total.
