This pisses me off to no end. A ref right there too. Arkansas attempting to blow out another All Americans knee. That line is dirty as hell.

I believe he already had rolled his ankle ahead of this play. It was a clip, outside the free blocking zone and should have been called, but I think that block pales in comparison to aubrun's hit job on Dorsey. This block, although illegal, occurred at the point of attack and it was the only option for the lineman who was beaten on the play. He shouldn't have done it, but I can see how the play developed and led to the action. With aubrun, it was nothing short of an assault.

I was over on a Hogs fansite and they were discussing the video too. They were upset that it happened and felt a flag should've been thrown as well. I can say i was a little shocked to read their responses.

you can see his ankle is already heavily taped (left one) and he is limping in this clip (on the left ankle). Penalty...yes, the reason for the injury...no

I agree with you but this lick didn't help matters anymore. What I can't understand is why MD was still in the game. He wasn't playing up to 50% of his ability as a result of the injury. Surely we have players that are at least half as good as him backing him up.

Personally, I don't see intent here. The play was running to the right and Marcel was on outside containment. The back, cutting back, changed the direction of the play and I don't see the offensive lineman seeing that...

Football, ya know?

You have to realize a lot of these players we have our guys going against don't understand the speed, agility, and ability of our players.

What do u mean u dont understand? The lineman may have not seen the back cut back but he saw that Dareus' back was to him and he chose to dive at that back of his knees, that is clipping. Simple as hell.

I think what Terry P is saying is that there wasnt a "flagrant intent" to hurt Dareus......I dont think he is arguing the fact that it wasnt a clip. Just my opinion.

Right and the FACE MASK on Robert Lester on the sideline where he got called for a late hit becuse THE GUY HAD HIM by the the face mask....
there was no INTENT there was thier. The face mask was intentional. It was a dirty play.
I cannot belive that the hogs wern't playing dirty every chance they got in this game. Period.
I expect as much this week against UF.

I just dont get what his 'intent' would have been other than to hurt his knee when you dive at the back of a players knees.

By my viewing of it, his intent was to block him. Had that play been within the free blocking zone, it's a legal block. The lineman pursued Dareus to the point of attack and, as Terry mentioned, couldn't keep up and made contact in the only place he could reach.

I saw the play as well, and thought it was nothing but an intentional effort to hurt one of our guys. THis is modus operandi for teams like Arkansas, Auburn, and I'll even throw Tennessee in there. But, to be fair, these are new coaching staffs at all of these places. Chizik is in his 2nd year at Auburn, and it's different there. Petrino is in year 3, I believe, and this isn't Houston Nutt coaching it. For that matter, it's rarely the head guy that is promoting these tactics. usually, it's just a player frustrated with getting beat by the other player. I know it used to piss me off when someone bigger, stronger, faster, whatever would beat me. Once, in a practice, I was getting man-handled by one of our better DLinemen. My coache kept letting me get up, and get whipped again and again. This was a one on one drill. I kept getting up, and getting it again. Over and over. I think Coach called it off when he saw I stood no chance.

Just think of it as a heat of the game thing.

"Free Blocking Zone"/output post:

The so-called "Free Blocking Zone" is really a misnomer. The conditions for a block in the back or clipping to be legal are only present at such time as the ball is within the zone. Essentially, legal clipping only applies to blocks against linemen who are shooting the gap, or turning to pursue. In such instances, there is little player momentum on the part of the offensive lineman, and while the block is more dangerous than a normal cut, the resulting low-speed impact is not traumatic.

In the case of the block on Dareus, both the lineman and the ball were outside of the zone. The Arkansas lineman was running full speed and hurled himself at Dareus' knee, contacting him from behind. There is no way that it was not intentional.

At the very least, it should have been a 15 yard penalty.

End of Line...

So what does Dareus think of Wade Grayson

His most recent injury could have been made worse by some questionable blocking by Arkansas lineman Wade Grayson. Video of a low, late block on his already injured ankle is on the Internet and shows Dareus taking a shot after the play ended.
Dareus said he asked Grayson whether he was trying to take him out of the game, “and he just looked at me crazy.”
“That’s how some players play,” Dareus said. “It doesn’t really bother me. It just shows the ignorance of some players when they see someone down and they still try to kick them when there’s no reason to.”
The same thing occurred earlier in the game, but Dareus was able to avoid the dirty block.
“I knew what type of player he was before the game started,” Dareus said

Poor tact, bad play but I don't think there was intent to actually take out Dareus. He was trying to make a play for his team. Anyone that has played competitive football, even into high school, can understand the premise of doing something stupid in the heat of battle. Football is a Spartan sport and things like that come with the territory. I'm not condoning it, and yes this should've been a penalty, but I see no intent to truly hurt him.

The chop block on Dorsey--I love how three years later this still comes up. Yes it should've been a penalty, yes Chaz Ramsey should've been disciplined off the field as well. It was three years ago and a completely different coaching staff, however. To say that is Auburn's MO is a bit overboard. There were a few that took place under that coaching staff, the o-line coach's name escapes me, and I wish he had taken more heat for it than he did. I assure you Coach Grimes does not teach a chop block. That was, and still is, an embarrassing moment for Auburn football
