CrimsonCoug said:Why am I not surprised? SC, UF, and OU are quality teams but it is absolutely ridiculous that they get to jump an undefeated BYU team. They can't even bring up the argument of "quality opponents" this year because Coach Mendenall scheduled UCLA and Washington early just for this reason. BYU has played just as much if not more quality opponents that the aforementioned teams have.
What are Texas's quality wins, other than OU, this season? FAU? Arky? Rice? Colorado? We have beaten 2 top five teams away from home this season and not to mention a team with a top 3 defense. These polls are a joke and it is a travesty we have to rely on these lists of "who's who of media darlings".
Sorry for ranting.
One, opening up the season with a FCS football division opponent.
Two, the two teams you mentioned in terms of "quality opponents" are a combined 2-8 on the season. When you look at the other teams BYU has played (Wyoming, Utah State and New Mexico) you find 2 from the WAC, 1 from the Mountain West.
These three teams have a combined record of 7-13.
So, when you ask about quality opponents I don't see combined records of 9-21 quite fitting that bill.
You can point to the teams Texas, OU, etc. have played this season all you want but the voters are giving BYU their due being undefeated in placing them where they are. BYU fans may not like it, but the reasons they aren't higher on the list right now are listed here and that's what the voters/coaches are looking at.
BYU has TCU and Utah left on their schedule. If they make it through those games undefeated they'll get their shot at a BCS game.
