| FTBL Texas takes #1 in Coaches Poll/AP Poll

Why am I not surprised? SC, UF, and OU are quality teams but it is absolutely ridiculous that they get to jump an undefeated BYU team. They can't even bring up the argument of "quality opponents" this year because Coach Mendenall scheduled UCLA and Washington early just for this reason. BYU has played just as much if not more quality opponents that the aforementioned teams have.

What are Texas's quality wins, other than OU, this season? FAU? Arky? Rice? Colorado? We have beaten 2 top five teams away from home this season and not to mention a team with a top 3 defense. These polls are a joke and it is a travesty we have to rely on these lists of "who's who of media darlings".

Sorry for ranting.

One, opening up the season with a FCS football division opponent.

Two, the two teams you mentioned in terms of "quality opponents" are a combined 2-8 on the season. When you look at the other teams BYU has played (Wyoming, Utah State and New Mexico) you find 2 from the WAC, 1 from the Mountain West.

These three teams have a combined record of 7-13.

So, when you ask about quality opponents I don't see combined records of 9-21 quite fitting that bill.

You can point to the teams Texas, OU, etc. have played this season all you want but the voters are giving BYU their due being undefeated in placing them where they are. BYU fans may not like it, but the reasons they aren't higher on the list right now are listed here and that's what the voters/coaches are looking at.

BYU has TCU and Utah left on their schedule. If they make it through those games undefeated they'll get their shot at a BCS game.

Just to put this in perspective...

We received more votes this week in the AP poll than last week.

More votes in the Coaches Poll as well.

Sagarin dropped us one place to #4.

Colley's Poll dropped us from #1 to #2.

At this time, Massey hasn't been updated as of yet and Anderson hasn't as well.

Harris poll is also out. Bama at #2.

Just looked at their site and it hasn't been updated yet...shows results through Oct. 5...

Where did you see that?

Never mind, found it.

We are up in that poll as well...both in total points and a huge jump in #1 votes.

It's safe to assume that if we continue to handle our business, we'll be the only factor that decides where we'll play our bowl game at.

Lost in all of this as well is if you go back 2 months ago the Cotton Bowl was a goal, not a reality. Now, even with dropping a few games, we are looking at the Cotton Bowl as a worse case scenario...that's not making it to ATL, 2 teams from the SEC getting BCS invites and another SEC team getting the nod for Capital One.

Doesn't matter to me one bit. Polls doesn't matter as of right now, and there still could be a lot of movement left to go.
