šŸˆ Speaking of the SEC Network, I'm curious...what does your current TV package include?

And, adding onto that a bit, who are you with?

In my area, with U-verse, there are five packages available—starting with a basic package and going all the way up to U-450. There's a price difference of roughly 100 bucks a month between the two...maybe $110. The basic gives access to local channels (out of two viewing areas) and the 450 tier is around 500 channels. I chose the middle tier which comes with a $10 add-on for HD.

It's easier to list what I don't get than what I do.

FoxSports- Atlantic, Pacific, and Central.
NFL
MLB
GolTV
LHN
Tennis
Spanish language channels.

Now, what's a little odd to me is I do get FSN St. Louis, Indianapolis, and Kansas City. I get the B1G network. Keep in mind I live off the coast of South Carolina.

IF what kudzu has posted is true about the SECN only being available for the U-450 group that means it would cost me an additional $50 a month. Right now, with a packaged Internet and TV deal, my TV runs about $90 with a $25-30 a month discount since I also have 'net access through U-Verse.

Simply put, not worth it, at all.

What do your TV packages include? Who are you with? Rough cost estimate?

I don't have cable or the dish. I simply have digital rabbit ears to get the local channels (saves money). If it is not on one of those channels ,I watch it online. While dealing with sports ,I watch them on ABC,CBS,Fox, or NBC. Otherwise I would go to a local sports bar for the action.

For me with DirecTV, they have 6 different options. I'm currently at Xtra, switched down to this a few years ago from the Premier (my TV bill was crazy high before).

Select ($50, 125+ channels) , Pursuit, TBS, TNT, Univision, USA,
Entertainment ($58, 140+ channels), ESPN, Unimas
Choice ($67, 150+ channels), ESN, ESPNU, FS1, Fox Sports Southwest, MLBN, NFL, TVG (horseracing)
Xtra ($74, 205+ channels), FS2, Golf, NBA, NBCSN, Tennis, Sportsman, WGN
Ultimate ($82, 225+ channels), NHL,
Premier ($129, 285+ channels), all channels (YES, college sports, etc)

Dish. Get all the usual, TBS, Fx, Comedy Central, wife wanted HBO, so that's an extra 20 for me. Got all the sports channels, ESPN to Fox Sports to NBC Sports. Tivo is an extra $7 per machine (3 bedrooms, $21). Round it all up really, I only have to pay close to 105 a month.

I'm with Charter.

I get the normal channels and NBCSN, NFL, NHL, MLB, B10, and such plus I have Starz, HBO, Cinemax, and Showtime in all I have 426 channels in non HD and there's 405 channels that are in HD. I pay $125 a month with a discount because of a package with internet and phone

For me, I'm with DirecTV.

Select ($50, 125+ channels), Pursuit, TBS, TNT, Univision, USA, espn, but with a second tv it all cost $70.00+. Thanks planomateo I copy from you. But, it looks like the SEC network will be with a sport package.

Yeah Rick, not sure where the SECN which bucket it will fall into.

A trick I've used for about 8 years or so with DirecTV, call them up, talk to retention department. Tell them you aren't happy and are considering leaving. Every 12-18 months I do this and get $15-$30 off for 12 months.

I've done that flip between providers (U-Verse, Comcast, and WOW [formally Knology) for years now. When I know the price increase is about to hit I also know specials will be ripe for the taking. I've never chosen to go the dish route. I just don't want one of those damn things on my roof and while I realize external mounts/poles can be installed don't really want that either.

Crazy side story. I ran across a special for home security two weeks ago so I called the company and told them I was canceling. They dropped my monthly just below the one I was going to go with (no new equipment but there's really none needed.) I swear to god, in the two/three days I got a letter stating they were going up on my price. I couldn't help but laugh.

Called them, told them a quick version of the story to catch the customer rep up to date and then mentioned the price increase letter...that got me sent to the call-center mgr. I mentioned knowing the REG MGR that carries ADT for years (which I do,) and I was going with a company besides his because of price. BUT, I was going to three-way the REG MGR so he could hear why I was canceling for future sales meetings.

To say the least...I've got some stupid price locked in for a year now...$23.97 or something like that.

Anywho...going to contact this areas U-Verse people and find out what they know (on SECN) later on today or tomorrow...

I'll say this in closing...LOVE U-Verse—especially the wireless DVR option. It was a 65Āŗ morning, nice breeze, and I spent an hour out on the deck watching Imus in the Morning. It probably took five minutes to set everything up mainly because I had forgotten which side of the attic I'd stored the cushions. (Don't laugh, got a patio on the W side of the house, deck on the E side, with attic storage a few yards from both.)

I have to agree with Terry's opinion on UVerse. Love it! I've had the TV for close to 3 years they've been great. Reliable and good customer service so far. I just switched to their high speed internet, hence the reason I was one the phone a few days ago and asked about the Sec Network, so I 'm not sure how it will be but the TV has been great.

Hey Terry can you post what they tell you about SecNetwork when you call. I'm interested to hear what you get out of them.

Looks like I am not getting a good deal. I pay $163 monthly for Cable TV through Mediacom Inc. That pays for digital basic, plus internet with 12 mb download, and 1.5 mb upload speeds. Unfortunately, I do not have other options for internet, but the internet is $45 monthly, which I am not real unhappy with. I could pay for faster internet, up to 100 mb/second, but I only stream movies and sporting events, and that speed is sufficient for that. I guess most of my costs involve the video, and I am paying too much. In on-line research today, I found an article somewhere that says Dish is going to carry the SEC Network. Wish I could remember where I saw it. I would have posted it. I own a motor home, and the wife and I are going on a cross country trip this summer. Guess the Dish would be a good thing to have for that, also. They make portable satellite antennas for my coach. I am just about convinced to go with the Dish Network. If any one has had bad experiences with DISH, I would appreciate hearing about it before I sign a contract. Thanks.

I really want to go with U-Verse, but they don't have it up here in my area. One thing I like about our Charter is the internet is unlimited and with being in school I have to be online most the day twice a week.

I had DirecTV for roughly two weeks. Hated it with a deep passion. I called to cancel and they were going to give me 3 months free then after that 3 months my price was going to be locked at $56 a month for their premium package with all the sports channels and movie channels......I declined.

$56 for premium isnt bad... I had Dish for a year... it was like $60 a month, then after that year it shot all the way up to $130 a month, I was blown away. I was also paying for cable internet so no way I was keeping that.

ElephantStomp Hearing someone mention "unlimited Internet" today still comes as a shock to me. Especially at home. I'm not aware of any providers in my area that actually have a cap on usage.

One thing I've enjoyed about the U-Verse account is the number of AT&T hot spots in the area. There are a lot of business which offer free Wi-Fi now, but on top of that there are probably 300 or so areas where I can log on the Internet and get free Wi-Fi access through their network. It's convenient considering how often I have my tablet with me.

Heck, there's an area downtown—roughly 5 square miles, maybe larger—that covers the tourist district where the city provides free Wi-Fi...

I know there are areas where you can't get unlimited. A package my father was on two, three years ago was set up that way. I even ran across someone a few months ago that's still limited to dial-up only.

planomateo I think he was talking about unlimited use, not unlimited speed.

I can't recall the name of the company or the city where my dad retired to several months ago...it's down in the southern portion of TX and he had a price set for a certain amount of use per month (much like some cell plans.)
