I was actually offered a small scholarship in water skiing at southwest Louisiana (university of Louisiana Lafayette) in high school!!!! Turned it down to play football (big mistake). I also competed in a few pro-ams in the early ‘90’s. Winning a few! That was my hobby of choice !!!! When I didn’t have baseball/football I was on the water!!!

A Capella, chess, dairy cattle judging, dairy tasting, forensics, flying, landscaping, meat animal evaluation, meat judging, soil judging and wool judging are considered athletic events?

Debate isn't an athletic event, yet an NCAA recognized championship. There's probably as many national title trophies found in Reese Phifer as there are in the Mal Moore building.

I seem to recall a few bass fishing titles in the last few years for UA.

Isn’t the NCAA focused on athletics (the National Collegiate Athletic Association). Yet no rugby championships.
