🏈 so what now???

Why would Stoops leave OU for UF? Stoops has it pretty good at OU, and I'm sure they'll bump his salary because of this.

I think Mullen has to be at the top of the list, followed by Whittingham, especially if Meyer still hangs around.

But at the end of the day, here's hoping for Charlie Weiss!!! :-)

yeah with urban still there "assuming a non-coaching role" i think it would be hard to get spurrier, but my question is how involved will he still be?? maybe recruiting now and then and advising?? i would tend to think that his roll would diminish over time. but i think that may be a huge drawback with any big name coach imo. what i will say... its been nice having the chance to watch the coaching carousel and not being on it.

Is Charlie Strong already locked down contractually? If not, I imagine that he would be on a shortlist of candidates.

Also, what is this going to do to their recruiting and will we possibly pick up any commits from this?

Strong has reportedly signed a term sheet but has not officially signed a contract. If they're looking for a protege', I would think Mullen will get greater consideration than Strong.

Tim

Look for Mullen. Maybe Kirby Smart gets a nod ? Who knows but there is more to this then what is being reported. Something else is up and it will come public soon enough. There is something else other than his health, seriously think about it. Who retires this early being as successful as he is ? Joe Pa said he wont leave until he dies on the field. Something is up here, I'm telling ya

Kyle Whittingham

That's the obvious choice. The guy would jump at the opportunity to coach the Gators. Who wouldn't? The whole state is a recruiter's dream.

Stoops name will be thrown around but i doubt he comes to the SEC to coach. At OU he knows that its nowhere near as difficult to reach the top and the NC game as it is with a team from the SEC. I have family in oklahoma that sent me articles from interviews done by stoops after they played a struggling bama team those 2 yrs in a row when they were playing for National Titles and the one thing he said over and over was he had no clue how anyone could go undefeated in the SEC. over the course of the 2 yrs the 2 toughest games according to him was Bama.

Ive had a bet with my brother since the 3rd or 4th game of the season about if Meyer would step down if they dont beat bama in the SECCG knowing Tebow is gone. Its the best time for him to go especially if hes having health issues. He goes out while hes still basically on top and pretty much owned the last half of this decade. When he comes back to coach again where ever it may be he will still be remembered for his yrs with Tebow and not known as the coach that couldnt win without Tebow

I also think that Florida would love to bring back Mullen to Gainesville but i also think it's the most difficult option.

About Charlie Strong, my thought is...he was very impatient? or he knew Urban's decission and he left? So i'm not 100% sure he want to be next Florida HC (less pressure in Louisville or something...)

My pick: Kyle Whittingham

Regards!!

It has to be a proven Head Coach. That program is too important for someone to be given the keys and told to go figure things out.

THE homerun name right now wold be Coach Saban. He is as hot a name as any, and would deal a huge blow to conference team over the next two years. With the money to be made with the right coach, there is no amount of money that would be unreasonable to through at him. But there have been ZERO rumors even hinting at him not being at home with this program. Other than money, he has all he wants here...and it is rolling according to plan.

Other than CNS, Bob Stoops fits. Stoops has a history at UF. He is proven at running a program (as long as car dealerships stay out of the way), having won a NC and produced a Heisman. Plus, he did stiff arm the Notre Dame job, which could have been him waiting for CUM to step down. (Remember, CUM's health issues were known within the program.) This also could explain to flight of his OC and DC,(i.e. they knew this was coming.)

The Peterson guy at Boise State is another that could get a look. The thought there is that hitting the refresh button on a Spread coach would be a simple fix. As far as why Peterson would come, he has to know that he can't win a title there or get rich there. This is his once in a life time shot.

Pete Carrol. If his ego is big enough, he may want to test himself in the SEC. Also, having success in a Conference with a Championship Game would remove the frustration of being the Team in the PAC 10 and not getting respect. Frankly, Pete Carrol's personality seems perfect for Florida. With his nationaly recruiting success, can you imagine what he would do in Florida against Randy Shannon and Miami and First Year HC Jimbo Fisher at Florida State? How many recruits would want to come with him?

Stoops has been at OU for almost a decade (thats pretty much the max at program this day and age) I look for him to take the UF gig.

That opens the OU job then. Best guess would be Patterson at TCU

Patterson has done a great job at TCU. I would have thought that he would have made a move by now. Is there a limiting factor with him that I'm not aware of (does he interview well, handle the fans/alumni/press okay?), has he been very loyal to TCU to date, or is he simply playing it cool waiting for a shot at a premier, top tier program?

Tim

if stoops is ever gonna leave OU on his own terms i think UF could be the best spot for him (although i kind of had the same feeling about notre dame) but with his history with UF that might be the final piece to the puzzle. and lets face it, i think his stock might be on the downward spiral. i mean barring this year with all the crazy injuries, i think he is a great coach but really cant win the big games consistantly. i mean it was luck that they got the big 12 nod last year in that screwed up system then got destroyed in the bcs game. i mean in 06 they lost to boise, 07 they lost to west virginia, 08 lost to florida and in 05 they went like 8-4 i believe. also in 04 they got absolutely beatdown by usc in the bcs game. so im not sure his stock is eactly on the rise, but maybe the reason why his name keeps popping up is to keep his name out there to keep it hot.

Patterson has shown some amazing loyalty to TCU, even signing a big (well, big by MWC standards) extension with them this year.

Just like Peterson @ Boise and Whittingham @ Utah, he's in a damn good position. You don't have the rabid fanbase that will tear your head off over every little mistake, you don't have to live under nearly the microscope that the SEC coaches do, winning 9-10 games a year is just fine - and if you ever do more than that (i.e. a BCS bearth), then you're practically raised to sainthood. If money isn't the sole motivating factor, then he's in an awfully good spot.

If they want the big name splash, Stoops makes the most sense. However, if Meyer is staying in Gainsville and helping with the hiring, I'd say someone with ties to him would be on the short list. Strong, Mullen, and Whittingham would be frontrunners.

I would hope that any potential head coach would take a good long look at how Zook was treated while at Florida. After Spurrier quit, he was left with quite a few holes on the team, but he recruited well, and basically stocked UF's 2006 team. The fan base there at UF was all over Zook, and basically made life miserable for him while he was there. Zook isn't a great head coach, I realize that.

It will be a big name to begin with. I'm not sure why so many on here believe Saban is in the running for the job. Why? Is Saban unhappy enough to leave Bama? Obviously no. Is he not being paid well? No. He has the potential to become a legend at Alabama, whereas he has pretty high recent standards to live up to at UF. He's built Alabama to something he has dreamt of, I'm sure, but I don't think he thinks the job is done. And it still won't be done if we win against Texas. He has dynasty on his mind.

The job is going to to go Whittingham, Peterson, of perhaps Patterson. If not from that group of three, then someone from the NFL. The names are limited there, but think someone who has worked alongside a super bowl winner, if not one by himself.

I'd like to take this time to nominate Mike Shula for the job.

you forgot to mention the modern jimmy johnson, the genius known as lane kiffen. in a short period of time he has righted the ship at ut and got them in a bowl game! got the same 1st year record as cns! not to mention all the publicity he has generated for the u.... of t.
