🏈 So how good will we be at the QB position?

I think because of inexperience, we won't throw the ball as much next season as we did this year. Of course, with Richardson, Lacy, and possibly Ingram returning, that will probably benefit us. Will be a very interesting spring.

I agree I doubt we will be throwing it as much with AJ's first year as a starter. Ingram wont be returning IMO. I think part of the reason Ingram hasn't looked as impressive this year is because he's going to the next level. I mean why would he stay? He's won a Heisman, played on a National Champion team and visited ATL twice. There's not much else he could do so I see no reason why he'd stay. He could always attend college after the pros if a degree is in his plans.

With AJ's superior arm, it actually opns up more deep posts down the middle and slants, routes that take advantage of a big arm. I think AJ's pocket presense will determine how much we throw it. If he is calm in it, footwork and accuracy will come with it.

Though, indeed, he still has some great RBs to work with. Kenny Bell and Kevin Norwood to throw to as well. Seens like Norwood has been in Saban's doghouse quite a bit though.

EDIT: You can replace AJ with Sims as well. I have heard that Sims also has a big arm.

I dont know, if it comes down to who has more experience with the offense and in gameday environments, AJ has a clear advantage. Sims will have to be outright better to get the job, and that might be hard.

No matter who starts....im fairly confident in saying our top two are the most talented recruits at QB we have had in along....long time. But if they are laying on their backs from poor blocking....wont matter much anyways.

I believe our line will be better next year and we'll run it more to take the pressure off our young QB's. With the talent of Sims and AJ, we could be entering another Watts/Zow era of shared time.

I'm a big AJ fan, but I'm not 100% ready to say he'll be the starter. I've been hearing a lot about Sims lately.

AJ has a big arm, but he showed several times this year that he has a long way to go in decision making. Sims is also immensely talented. I think Sims pushes real hard for playing time in the Spring. I wouldn't be at all surprised if we see both of them during the season.

I might be the only person here who has serious doubts about our ability to field an SEC champion QB next year or even the next. That is the standard, after all: to be able to guide the team to Atlanta. I don't think we have a guy on the roster right now who can do that. This year was a great example of why a "game manager" will not be able to get the job done when the defense or the supporting offensive cast is not exemplary. A game manager can help you get to the title game if everything around him is stellar and performing well. Particularly the defense, in this league. We had an adequate defense this season, but not the same one we had in 08 or 09. So, as a result, the QB has to be better than average. Does anyone see a guy like that on the roster?

Sorry to seem so negative, but I truly see next year as a rebuilding season. The only way we can have some continuity next season is if some of the juniors that are expected to go pro decide to stay. After that loss to Auburn, we might just see that.

In my opinion both AJ McCarron and Phillip Sims both very much have the potential to be game changers. I also think you're selling our defense short, they'll be ready next season with a secondary and linebacker group that are veterens.

BamaCore, would you elaborate a little on what you've been hearing about Sims?! I live in Western Tn so I don't hear very much....Thanks

Roll Tide Roll!

Well, honestly it's really only one thing but it seems like I've been hearing it a lot lately. I've heard that the coaching staff is very very impressed with Sims at the moment. It's not from any official source or anything, just he said she said so take it with a grain of salt.
