I still periodically check the BCS standings late each season, and much more often than not, it's stacks up really well and usually better (IMO) than the other polls.
Just for discussion. What if the roles were reversed, and we had only played 4 games. Do you still put us in the playoff picture? I'm torn because I would want us in, but tbh, I'm upset that osu is in the discussion but I do believe that they are probably one of the four best teams
Hancock has said they've used the metrics of the BCS, but not the BCS system itself.
I can't remember the team off the top of my head. I do recall a ranking where when asked about that team he mentioned adjusted offensive point per drive and opponent adjusted offensive ratings. (sic) That hit me like a ton of bricks. It was a part of the computer rankings. It's what BCFtoys uses as part of their model. Now, they may not be using a specific computer ranking, but they certainly are using the same data points.
Do you think they've hired outside help to calculate these things? I don't.
Would you agree there's some validity to the polls when it comes to the committee's choices? IE: They see where team A is ranked in the coaches versus team B?
Even better, do you find validity in critiques offered by the media when it comes to the committee's decisions?
In both cases, I do. While they aren't "officially" a part of their process, there's an impact realized or not.
I like looking at the BCS for comparison sake. Like to see just how much human element slants the judgement of some polls, ie the AP and Coaches. Also, when the CFP comes out with their standings/rankings, where do they stack up in comparison to the computer model. There are times that I haven't just wondered, "Why didn't we just use the BCS formula to pick the top 4 instead of having to have a committee that would sometimes have a little bias toward their own conference?"
