| FTBL Select the option that *best* expresses your assessment of DeBoer to this point.

What best represents your evaluation of DeBoer as Bama HC so far?

  • He’s done well under unique circumstances: new to SEC, post-GOAT, an overrated roster, NIL, portal.

  • Meh, acceptable. Surprise wins & losses in year one were expected. I’m cautiously optimistic though.

  • I’m disappointed. Too many head scratching moments for a supposed top caliber staff.

  • I’m very concerned. 3 losses to unranked teams & no playoff was simply inexcusable with this roster.

Now that the emotional “dust” has settled from the bowl game, I want you guys to try your best to select from the available options. Don’t give me any smart ass replies either! Jk 😏

I went with #2, but I'd really fall somewhere in between 1 and 2. His job with this roster was more difficult than many will admit (or understand), but the manner in which Bama lost a couple of games was concerning, especially the OU debacle. I said the other day, it's unfair IMO to really start the clock on his tenure until the moment that clock his 0:00 in Tampa. He's got to make some adjustments now, already did one today with the staff. I'm plenty confident the guy understands what it takes to win, but there has been and will be a learning process for him in the SEC and at Alabama. He's got to learn quick and make the right adjustments. Next fall will answer some lingering questions.

Alabama, and the SEC as a whole, are becoming more finesse… the big 10 is becoming the SEC of old.. much more physical and stronger.. until they do something about that. The big 10 will be back on top like they were in the 90s.

Paul Scrottomhead said he is on the "hot seat"

Fucking idiot I tell you.

One of the most toxic and intelligently bankrupt individuals to ever to be in major sports media, and yet he's propped up by the SEC for some reason. I'll go to my grave never understanding that. But I hope to God it's at least a day after he goes to his, so I can enjoy 24 hours in this world without him being in it.

I selected #3.

It is unclear all the situations Kalen and staff had to overcome since he got the keys. I do know that I am damn glad I never have to watch #4 play another F down for Bama.

I believe Kalen and staff have a roster full of players more interested in money than winning. He has little Glue to hold things together when it goes South. I have no problem with him going outside Alabama to find the type player he wants. The roster needs a IQ upgrade.

With a buyout like Kalen has he can sleep well each night.

In my opinion, our offense just seemed so out of sync and the schemes and playcalling were often head scratchers. I would have liked to have seen more of a running game to set up the pass. If pass protection was lacking, why not do more short and medium range passes or move the pocket more. I'm really hoping that next year that we can find a solid run game.

IMO we will see DeBoer and the offensive staff command things with a much more comfortable feel next season... Imagine a teacher who is really, really good at teaching Algebra III, but he's asked to teach Geometry for a year instead. He can do it, he knows Geometry, but it's not in his wheelhouse and it's not as comfortable for him. Then the following year, he's back in his Algebra III class. I think next fall, DeBoer is back in his Algebra III class.

Explain this one to me.

The B1G, "back on top like it was in the '90's," where the conference shared a 1/2 of a national title with Nebraska (Big 12?) The ACC ruled the '90's with right at half of the national titles (FSU X2, GT, and Miami.)

This is another one that doesn't "click" with me. I don't get the thought here.

"...play calling were often head scratchers..." versus ... "why not do more short and medium range passes?"

We all knew that those passing routes were one of the, if not THE, weakest portion of Jalen's game. Why would they move to that type of "attack" when it's not in Jalen's wheelhouse?

Eh I'd say #2. I didn't expect a loss to Vanderbilt but the one @ OU was concerning. I think that he recruits a type of players that fit his system + the players retained enjoyed not being under the pressure and demand under Saban. So they toom advantage of it being a more relaxed enviroment. But that's probably not what Deboer demands or wants. He took steps into insuring players were locked in (rat traps set after after UGA game) but players just didn't buy in. Maybe that led to our ultimate demise in year one, because he definitely had the talent to succeed. But a lot of the roster maybe didn't fit into his scheme/philosophy. I said in another thread that "he ain't it" and that was probably a knee-jerk reaction. I want to give him time like any coach deserves, but understand, you're under a different pressure cooker at Alabama. I think all in all, it was a mix of contrasting styles coaching wise and players not bought in.

Unfortunately I think discipline is something instilled in the offseason and takes the players to buy into. It took one year for Saban's discipline to have an affect on the roster. That '07 team had talent; they didn't have the mindset that the '08 team did. Oats' team in year two was eerily similar. This season we saw an abundance of players losing their cool and leading to either the defense extending drives for the opposition or the offense shooting themselves in the foot.

I think we also have to look at Deboer as a really young coach. Next season will be his only sixth year being a HC at D1. He's still developing as a coach himself. He probably has an idea of how he wants to coach, but learning different ways to relate to the players in today's day and age.

I voted 3 but I guess I'm really between 2 & 3.

A comment made by CKD, seeing the "fire in his eyes" and his reason for staying the course really bothers me. I wonder if it was really "fear in his eyes" and CKD misinterpreted it. The lack of adjusting during the game has me concerned about the entire offensive staff. And post season, the first staff "adjustment" we see is on the defensive side.

So that means I really don't know what I'm seeing or talking about or, as Brandon stated, just don't understand what's going on.

Lost to one team that was "decent" and thats all tennessee was. Michigan played ...virtually....mostly #2s...Beat a Wisconsin..lsu...missouri...USCe...uga...

So i picked #5. "What the hell. " His interactions with jefferson in Michigan game was disheartening...ie. Sticking him back in game... he didnt look in control...he looked dumbfounded...lost...at times.
Not one for pulling a QB. But @ Oklahoma...n Michigan.... he said JM had a look in his eye and thats whyhe hestuck with him.... the tv showed JM...wasnt a look of determination...imo

So...yeah...i picked #5

I must be the only one that selected #4. It's not the fact that they lost 4 games, it's how they lost them. That was not Bama football in any stretch of the imagination. Apologies to all of you gentlemen that have actual connections to The University, you deserve better than that, I'm just a fan for 52 years and am deserving of nothing. Still, this year was extremely difficult to stomach. That being said...

ROLL TIDE ANY DOGGONE WAY!
