SEC Matchups Next Weekend....

Alabama @ Kentucky
Georgia @ Mississippi State
Florida @ Missouri
Tennessee @ auburn
Texas A&M @ South Carolina
Ole Miss @ Arkansas
Vanderbilt @ LSU

Here's the updated SEC standings after this weekend's games. Big for Bama to get back closer to .500. LSU is still stuck in the mud, but feels like at any point the light will come on for them, and then watch out. auburn is better than their record, but they've had a rocky season so far... red hot Kentucky just swept them in auburn. Back to... Bama, their RPI is #20... not too bad, good enough for 8th in the SEC. The upcoming SEC slate is at the bottom of the post...

Upcoming SEC Schedule
Ole Miss @ Georgia
#4 Tennessee @ #8 Kentucky
#24 Florida @ #6 Vanderbilt
#1 Arkansas @ South Carolina
#3 Texas A&M @ #25 Alabama
LSU @ Missouri
auburn @ #22 Mississippi State

The Vol series at Kentucky should be very entertaining. Vols coming off a sweep of LSU, Cats just got a sweep of auburn. Both teams are on fire. Bama doesn't catch much of a break after welcoming the #1 Hogs to Tuscaloosa... A&M is just as good and coming off a sweep of Vandy, 2 games of which were shutouts. The Aggies will likely be the new #1 this week. The bright side for Bama is, they get them at home where they seem to be much more comfortable. Would be really nice to win back-to-back series against the #1 ranked teams. Feels like this is the week LSU kicks it into gear... we'll see. Not that I'm concerned with it, but auburn needs to start finding wins, soon... good news for them is the back half of their SEC schedule is a tad more manageable than what they've seen thus far. Like LSU (and Florida), they are better than what they've shown thus far.

The upcoming SEC slate is at the bottom of the post...
It's also at the bottom of the slate when it comes to competition.

Bama has six wins right now going against conference teams with a combined winning percentage of .680.

Looking ahead from today, Monday the 15th, the remaining teams on the slate? .373
Looking ahead from next Monday, the 22nd? .283.

It looks tough from a 6-9 spot. It does seem like .500 in SEC play is possible.

Baseball's schedule looks a lot like basketball when you look at some of the rankings. Bama will have played four of the top five teams by season's end.

I almost dove into that some... did so to a degree with auburn.

Alabama (18) has these teams left (RPI)...

Texas A&M (2)
@ Ole Miss (31)
@ Mississippi State (45)
LSU (50)
@ auburn (39)

Rebels and Dogs on the road, but both are weekends are very winnable. Problem is, so was @ UGA. But, and not to make excuses, Bama had to deal with some travel and weather issues in Athen's that sure didn't help them (had to stay an hour away from campus for starters). I'm going to be really surprised if LSU isn't playing much better baseball by then... but getting them at home? It might not matter. A Farrone vs. Holman Saturday game??? DO WANT. The auburn series feels like it is going to loom large and have an heavy impact on SECT seeding for Bama and maybe even much more than that. auburn's got some bats that should be keeping them in games, but their pitching has been less than ideal from what I've seen. Really kinda surprised at how poorly they've played (in relative terms) since their CWS run a few years back.
