The talking heads (radio programs) were saying that we will most likely start the season in Atlanta with Clemson.............nothing definite, but there are talks going on. I guess they would probably move Western Kentucky down to the Oct 11 date that was vacated by UTEP. Anybody know any more details on the possibility of this being done, almost done???? Porter, Terry?????????????????

Last I heard, they were hitting a roadblock of sorts because of some previously scheduled HS football games at the dome that weekend (some sort of HS football bash or something). With the money that this game would bring on though, I'm sure the city of Atlanta could make other arrangements and help BAMA and Clemson reach a deal. One way or another, I'm sure an announcement will be made before Feb.

If it's going to be at a neutral site, I wonder if a Thursday night game will factor in? Especially if it's the season opener.

Same here. I've got mixed emotions on this one. I'd love to have the game but would hate to see high school kids displaced...they would love playing there.

The HS kids in this state hate the dome!

I heard from a source also that if you want a hotel room for this game you better HURRY. Theres supposedly a big Star Trek convention the same weekend. 40,000+ Trekkies! AH!

Local HS team here plays in the dome usually every year, fans don't travel well to the dome for some odd reason. We played at Ga Techs stadium one year and that was cool!

I know in times past that Mal has opted out of a Thursday night game because of wanting the stadium full, but there are several reasons IMO that this would make a great Thursday night kick off.

Prime time (obviously)
Instead of having to fill 92,000 seats you would only have to worry about 40,000 or so.
We all know how well Bama travels. Plus it would be the first game of the season. Everybody will be jacked up to no end to go to a game by August. Atlanta is only a couple hours drive from most of Alabama and I know that I won't have a problem blowing off work for that one.

The GHSA teams all play their semi-final games in the GA Dome. It's two days of back-to-back games.

I always thought Americus traveled well to those games, but we've had a pretty great football tradition down here for a long time.

The event is called Dragon Con and they have it downtown every year. It does get pretty congested down here when that thing is going on, but folks should still be able to get a room around the airport or maybe somewhere on the north side. As long as you get a hotel close to a Marta station you can take the train right to the Dome.

To me, moving the HS game to Ga Tech just makes way too much sense and that's probably why it won't happen. :?

The HS teams here enter into two-year contracts to appear at the dome. The schools lose major gate revenue that they would get if they simply did a home and home with the other marquee team. Games are held both Friday and Saturday, so a Thursday game might work.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one on here who knows what Dragon Con is. The Convention is on Labor Day weekend so if that is the weekend of the game it could get ugly for hotels downtown (like Randy said). However, if it is a Thursday night game, it probably won't be too bad.
