🏈 Scott Cochran tweet

This is called recruiting, brotha.

Look at almost any College or pro Coaching Bio and you'll see them touting the accomplishments of former players at former schools

Again...one thing to talk about past. Is Karl Scott tweeting about previous jobs and their draft status?

Now if he had a Georgia G or logo on it,

Pull the picture up again and look bottom left!! ;)

Any other time, I probably wouldn't think anything of it........BUT, just go back and look at UGA since Bowl Cut took over and see what has been put out there through social media. For example, when our football Twitter account put out comments from Saban about our new strength and conditioning hires, BC and UGA were quick to fire back with a screenshot of the BAMA/UGA Natty game with the score 13-0 and saying that their S&C guys are "second to none". It's this kind of bullshit that really makes me dislike guys when they leave. UGA putting this out for Cochran screams the same thing. "Look at me!!! Look what I did!!!! NO one BUT me is responsible!" Shit!!! They even have some of the LSwho players listed from his time as an assistant S&C guy.

He's hired already. He's not trying to get a job. You're comparing apples to oranges.

Do I tweet about my prior accomplishments in my future jobs...no. Do I tell everyone what I did at my current job in my previous jobs...no. I let my actions speak for themselves at my new employer. But hey, that's me...

He's using this this to win in recruiting. Bad look...but that's all he's got, I get it.

And to be clear, I wouldn't want any Alabama coaches tweeting about their past 1st rounders.

Apples and oranges? The entire point was that you use past accomplishments to create future opportunities, just like he is trying to do in recruiting with this post. You see it as apples and oranges because it goes against your stance, but it's exactly what we all do many times in our lives.

I also find it hard to believe you have never spoken about something you accomplished at an old job to any of your friends or someone in a passing conversation.

Yep, you're right. I simply missed it,even though I looked too. My bad. Yeah, that is not cool to have the logo of the school none of those guys went to in my eyes. Without the logo I'm fine with it though.

You tweet about your work? You post up on social media what a bad ass you were at your precious employer?

I worry about what I do at my employer, not what I did at my previous employer.

No, I'm not on social media outside of Instagram for my hat company. It's all childish anymore.

As far as talking about previous accomplishments, I do tell my current managers about what I did at my last company when it comes to needing to know what I'm capable of and what I've done and how I made a difference. You say you let your actions do your talking, well how on Earth does your company know you're capable of anything if you haven't spoken or given some kind of indicator? I'm also an Accountant, not in the arms race that is college football. Different weapons are necessary for him than say me. Does Saban talk about winning five Natty's or having won six Natty's? I know he's not wearing his LSU ring to a recruits house, but I bet six is discussed.

We're not going to align on this.

You're missing the difference between getting hired and being hired.

I get what you're saying and like you I don't think it's a good look for Cochran. It's met with what I expected and that's fans referencing injuries in response to his claims of development. I saw one fan bring up how Bama has carried a "stigma" in the draft on how players are used and worn out. It's that on Cochran?

I'm reminded of when Saban was hired. We heard "Les is winning with Saban's players" met with "Saban's winning with Shula's players." Soon it was "Saban winning with Dinardo's players" because Saban had mentioned the number of players he'd recruiting, coached, and were playing in the NFL. He did this on the recruiting trail his first few years at Alabama.

He was pointing to the past, bragging about it if you will, not unlike Cochran—too a degree. We've got an argument about how much a newly minted S&C coach had to do with the development of Julio as a WR.

FWIW, if we look over bio's on rolltide.com we see other teams and players mentioned: Freddie Roach and some guys at Ole Miss are an example.

Still ... don't like the look.

Question: Do most programs allow their first year special teams coach to tweet? I do not follow other programs so I truly do no know.

In industry, I doubt a person just hired at a new company would be doing this externally but I am seeing this through my crimson glasses.

If the 1st year S/T Coach had these names on their resume..... Absolutely.

Absolutely? Absolutely impossible for a first year employee, in any position, to brag about something they've done in the past. When's he pointing to? Year zero as a position coach?

Have people forgotten he was a strength coach?

The answer to that question is no. They don't. Stalker sums up why. How do you boast something when you're in your first year? It's a bad look when you brag about something you didn't accomplish.

Now, other coaches have done this in the past. When Chaney left UGA last season for UT he pulled something similar. Ironically, UGA fans were upset about the move, then.

When Warriner left OSU for UM he put out a graphic with Buckeyes. That followed Meyer's old S&C coach pointing to players from Florida when he took the job at OSU. When Fisher took over at A&M Tim Brewster did something similar with FSU DB's.

The one issue here is we have position coaches talking about the position they coached including Marriotti with OSU/UF where he went from S&C to S&C.

I don't see how Cochran's story here is in any way similar to what these other coaches have done.

That was my point with my question. I understand that he has nothing to point to and wants to promote himself and his new school. Still seems like you do that by going to work and establishing yourself in your new role. He will have to understand the trade off he made. He elected to start over which means he is at the bottom of the totem poll until he proves himself. His branding was as a S&C coach. He is no longer doing that by choice.

Now I personally believe what made him good as a S&C will help him and ultimately UGA. Will it be enough to get them over the hump? Not by itself in my view. It is not like their program is chopped liver anyway. They have been recruiting well and are more than competitive on the field.

This circles back to what I was asking when we first learned of the move. What was UGA missing and was that missing ingredient Cochran? What about this hire improved UGA's coaching staff?

On a slightly different note:

Let's say we saw Malzahn bragging about his former players when he took over the OC job at Arkansas, or Auburn. He'd have been bragging about the Springdale five, right? I suspect a lot more would be making more fun of that situation than Scott's ... even with their similarities.

Well it is always easy to make fun of the Barn and Malzahn.

Cochran did good things for Bama. We need to acknowledge and appreciate him for that. he is now our competition so he will be treated accordingly!!! Nothing wrong with that in my view.
