🏈 Scott Cochran tweet

Cochran did good things for Bama. We need to acknowledge and appreciate him for that. he is now our competition so he will be treated accordingly!!! Nothing wrong with that in my view.
So did Kirby, but just like with Scott, things changed.

Kirby was no real surprise. We began to see his true self emerge when Lane was getting the attention at Bama and it wasn't Kirby's defense. Scott was a surprise to a lot. But, those same people who were surprised were not aware of the reviews his program was getting from his peers in the league. They weren't aware Saban was considering changes, exploring new routes (as he's mentioned within the last few weeks injuries being a part of that,)
and the direction Saban wanted to go was met with "dissent." In other words, Cochran wanted to go a different direction than Saban.

The Cochran's, Scott and his wife, have done a lot of great things around the city as well.

It's my growing belief he became too big for his role...at least in his mind. It can likely be chalked up to human nature. After all, how many S&C coaches get national commercials with companies like AFLAC?

Absolutely? Absolutely impossible for a first year employee, in any position, to brag about something they've done in the past. When's he pointing to? Year zero as a position coach?

Have people forgotten he was a strength coach?

How is it "Absolutely impossible"? You're literally watching someone do it.

I don't even know who to compare Cochran to... Over Saban's tenure he's without a doubt the 2nd most consistently visible Coaching face associated with the program, despite not having an on field job. But he was directly involved in recruiting, development, and preparing for the draft. That legitimate interaction leaves me completely unbothered that he's advertising his previous work, because simply put.... HE EARNED IT.

Taking credit for it for sure...earned "an element of it" as did a lot of coaches....trainers...nutritionist....others
We'll see how much impact it has....
But for sure one thing.....he sure is getting a lot of discussion time for a S& C coach... ....
As i said earlier...UGA better achieve something special soon....very special...or ole Scott will be knocking back on nicks door to be rescued...

I'm watching someone claim responsibility for these guys development into NFL players where his position was ... a strength coach. What did Cochran teach Julio on routes? What did he teach A'Shawn about technique? What role did he have with running backs learning which hole to hit, and when? None. He didn't teach football. A strength coach.

Outside of S&C what did he bring to their (UGA) football development? Not a damn thing. Well, he's pretty good at pulling coaches back but that position has been filled...so it's got to be "Rah Rah."

If you are in your first year of a job, you don't have anything to point back to. Period. Because you haven't done a damn thing.

Kiffin had as much face time as Cochran when he was here. Likely more. More focused on Smart's defense than Scott's weight room.

Fans. Alabama fans. They knew who Cochran was largely because of the introduction: the funeral comment before UGA's blackout.

UGA fans prolly know about him (before the hire) for the same reason.

Nationally, I seriously doubt anyone knew how Cochran was until they saw Saban in the same commercial and thought, "they must work together."

------

Most definitely a nod to Scott for what he did while he was in Tuscaloosa. And, most definitely, a finger being pointed at Scott because he's shading the truth to an extreme.

With all due respect here, Cochran taught those boys a shit ton about how to stay physically fit and mentally prepared them for a grueling season and holding up to Coach Saban's expectations. I still use the workout routine my high school strength coach taught me. It's fared well through the heRs and has me a lot better prepared to teach my wife and kids. So one could say Cochran has taught these boys more than other coaches. As I said before, Saban has mentioned numerous times how much more Cochran spends with the players than anyone else and how instrumental he was in the success of the program. Just a lot of sour grapes from folks if you ask me.

Let's flip the script for a minute.

Freddie Roach had two guys from his DL drafted in 2018. He'd worked with them one year. One was a DL, the other more of an OLB who had his hands in the dirt coming off the edge occasionally. (Benito Jones and J.. Coatney)

How would you feel about Roach tweeting about those two guys? These are two he didn't recruit and two he worked with for a season. HE might have the right to post something like Cochran did, but in all honesty how much did he have to do with their development? One season, remember?

There's no sour grapes at all. There is bullshit being called bullshit.

All of what you say is true. However, when it comes to their football abilities, that credit goes to their position coach. After all, the NFL isn't drafting a guy because he benched 22 reps. They are signing football players.

Another note for you to consider, Casey.

You know some of what's being going on with UGA's recruiting since Kirby took the UGA job. It's not above board, by any means. Cochran knew this as well and yet decided to join Kirby. In your view, what does that say about Scott?

I agree with some of what you are saying. You say the combine isn't getting guys drafted, but it technically is. John Ross from Washington is a perfect example. So was Courtney Brown from Penn State and Vernon Golston from Ohio State to name a couple of others that simply looked amazing lifting weights and running. Cochran helped these guys get faster and stronger, and found guts they probably never would have found. How many NFL guys have said nothing they have ever done was harder than the 4th Quarter Program? Ruggs was a first round pick simply due to his speed, not his production. While I believe he is a terrific receiver, I still think Jeudy is the better receiver, and that speed won him a few million more. Did Cochran create that speed? No, of course not, but we all know a tenth of a second better can be taught, along with building a fitness program around his legs and abilities.

This is where I agree with you again, on Kirby's shenanigans with recruiting. I don't hold any ill will towards Cochran, but if you bring Kirby into the mix then I tend to agree with you that there is some underlying motive behind it all. Cochran was probably told to utilize his past success to draw more eyes to his current program. I have no problem with Cochran being proud of his accomplishments and even voicing them, but as a man if he was forced to do that and buckled to any pressure from Kirby, then I have to sit on the side with you that is was pathetic. If Cochran was using it to gain a leg up in his career and did it for his family and coaching future, I don't see an issue with it.

I believe we can take "was probably told to utilize his past success" and say "he was told to use his past success." Ample evidence is found with him repeating the same types of tweets we've seen from Bama in the last few years pointing to draft picks. It's beyond proven, in my view, with Built Between the Hedges."

Are you familiar with the IT term, "sandbox?" A place/site where you can test code? Let's say I built that and someone used it to develop a new app that has a download in the millions. Because I built the platform it was designed upon, do I take credit for his app?

I'll readily agree Cochran did his part physically with the players. Football acumen? No.

Some might infer this is the norm in the SEC and even at Bama. I don't want to believe that but it could be another option.
