🏈 Saban vs. Shula

Is Alabama getting a good return on their investment? How good is Alabama's head coach Nick Saban and his staff? After watching them demonstrate they were a much better team than Auburn for a quarter and a half, and then follow it with the characteristics of a poorly coached undisciplined team, I'd have to say poor to average. If you look at them as recruiters only, they are very good. If you look at their record in contrast to what is a very similar record of Mike Shula in 2005, shortly removed from NCAA sanctioned sholarship limitations, they are just a way overpaid average head coach and staff. Is Nick Saban really any better of a head coach than Mike Shula? Look at the facts. Every coach, since the Bear has had a 10 win season, except Ray Perkins. I'd argue Mike Shula had a 10 win season with significantly less talent depth than Saban has had to work with this year. I'd also remind you that Saban had the exact same result in the 2007 season as Shula did in 2006. Saban's national championship team of 2009 had a significant contribution from Shula recruited starters. If Shula was the coach with an opportunity with no encumbrances, such as the opportunity Saban had, would he have been as successful? I would say you can't definitely say no.
2005 – The 2005 season would see fortunes turn around for Shula and his Alabama team. Despite a catastrophic leg injury suffered by star wide receiver Tyrone Prothro, Alabama went 10–2 with a victory in the 2006 Cotton Bowl over the Mike Leach-led Texas Tech Red Raiders. The season included blowout wins over Florida and South Carolina, and also included a 6–3 win in a defensive classic over rival Tennessee. Alabama was ranked third in the nation and in the National Championship chase before losing at home in overtime to LSU and by rival Auburn on the road. The relative success gave Shula his first 10–win season in just his third year as head coach and also extended Alabama's lead in respect to having the most 10–win seasons of any program in the nation. Furthermore, the Cotton Bowl appearance and victory extended Alabama's lead in playing in, and winning, more bowl games than any other major school. The Tide finished the season ranked eighth in the nation.
Following the season, the university gave Shula a contract extension—6 years, $1.8 million.[8]

[edit] Summary

The Crimson Tide once again were led by head coach Mike Shula. The team started off the season at 9-0, which included notable wins versus Florida and Tennessee. The team would drop their two final regular season games versus LSU and their fourth consecutive loss to in-state rival Auburn. The team received a bid to the 2006 Cotton Bowl versus the Texas Tech Red Raiders. They defeated the Red Raiders on a last second field goal by Jamie Christensen.[2]
The season was also marked by a notable catch by wide receiver Tyrone Prothro, known to Alabama fans as The Catch. The receiver's career was ended later that season as he suffered a broken leg verus Florida. Prothro's catch would win ESPN's Game Changing Performance for week two, and later for the entire season.[3]

I have never seen people act like this its not the first time Auburn has beat us and it wont be the last, every body wonts to blame the coach, hey Ill take a 9-3 season over a 3-9 season any day,the only reason we lost that game is Heart our team just did not have it this year,if you dont have heart you are not going to win the big game just ask Boise st last night they didnt have it but Nevada did those boys had heart and they where not going to lose that game. It will be alright we will bounce back and still be in the run next year for another title but you cant win them all and your not going to be number 1 every year, just look at Texas and Flordia.

WHAT AN IDIOT! THERE IS NO COMPARING SHULA AND SABAN! AFTER SHULA WINS A NC WE CAN COMPARE! ALSO, IN CASE YOU HAVE FORGOTTEN, UNDER SHULA, B.CROWLE WAS INJURED IN A GAME THAT HE SHOULD HAVE ALREADY HAD THE SECOND STRING IN....T.PROTHRO, CAREER ENDING INJURY WHEN HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN WATCHING FROM THE SIDELINES! JUST TO NAME A FEW....THE TRUE BAMA FAITHFUL SUPPORT YOU CNS AND STAFF!

Roll Tide Roll!
