🏈 Ryan Kelly on Auburn DE Carl Lawson: 'Honestly don't know who that is'

You don't think g gesellschaft guys browse the internet? You don't think they're engraved in football? None of us know if we have players looking at this site regularly.

One thing I'll NEVER presume is the mind set of a center. I've known my share of players who don't watch football in the fall other than film; several of those being offensive linemen.

and it is more about numbers than it is names. They get the names, but study the numbers.

Have you ever watched a Richt presser? He's a big first and last name guy when it comes to talking about his opponents ... but, it's always off of a sheet, and always stat based.

Compare that to other pressers where you hear a coach say something like "2 and 17 are backs we have to try to contain."

One of my neighbors (and an old family friend) played guard for Bama in the mid 90s. He said you hardly know the names of other players on opposing teams unless they are superstars. He specifically mentioned Leonard Little and Takeo Spikes, but said in general you are focused on practices and film, not watching the media. This was a casual conversation earlier after seeing this thread. I bet he could name more players on opposing teams now than he could when he played.

Jake Coker, an in-state guy, and supposedly a Bama fan, whose dream it was to play for Bama, or so we were told, had this to say to the media about his Iron Bowl memories:

"It was around 2001 or so and it was the first time Alabama had won in a long time -- they won 31-7. And half of my family, my mom's side, is all Auburn. All my cousins are older than me, my brother. So I'm sitting there in front of the TV going crazy and then as soon as we win, I'm going crazy. And then I get my butt beat by just about every cousin. [Each one] takes a turn. It was great to rub that in." – Alabama QB Jake Coker (Mobile, Ala.)

lolwut. We had won 3 out of 4 Iron Bowls at that point. Nothing surprises me about what players don't know at this point.

I have a very hard time remembering what year things happened. So, seeing that doesn't seem that out of the ordinary.

I'm guessing here ... 31-7 was in 2001. We'd lost three out of four going into Auburn as I recall. Perhaps that is what Jake was remembering?

Does social media and these recruiting camps not bring these guys closer than ever before though? Most of these recruits spend two years running a circuit with each other, so I assume they were better suited to know more than in the 90's where this stuff wasn't one click or text away.

2nd post I have read this nonsense out of you. You think motivation is going to beat our front 7 against the Barn? The pansy bus doesn't stop here son.[
It creates distractions that your team doesn't need. I didn't say it made Auburn any more talented than they are. If you don't respect your opponent, you won't prepare for them as you should.

Just my opinion, you guys should watch the interview before being caught up in what was quoted. Bet you guys have a different view once you watch the videos.

Just a bunch of reporters trying to get page clicks, twitters retweets, etc.

It's clutter, nothing more...nothing less.

You are right. I just don't like the distractions. They should know when they make statements like that, it will be twisted by the media. It's always better to have players focus on their jobs for the upcoming game and leave the other crap out of it.
