Checking out Rivals there has been some talk that Tubs may retire at the end of the season. They rumor there is a conference scheduled for next week to announce it. I don't know if it's true just throwing it out there to see if anyone else has heard the same.

If he does, I say he does it before the Alabama game. That way, he doesn't have to face the inevitable butt whippin' that's a comin'.

Since I work in the area, around many Auburn people, I do have a Barner friend that told me this week, info he has gotten was Tubs would be gone at the end of the year unless he won out and a bowl game. He would be asked to leave or if he wanted to go elsewhere they would negoiate the buy out clause. Another thing was if he stayed he would have to fire his entire staff, esp. on offense.

They want Muschamp to be their next coach, they think he is the only one who can recruit agains Coach Saban. So, we will see what happens on the plains, glad it's not us going through this.

Listening to the talking heads on the radio this week they seemed to have an interesting take on Muschamp....and it makes sense to an extent. Would you want your first HC position to be against CNS. Now I understand that all HC's have and ego and that they all want to compete, but do you want to start your first job being the red-headed stepchild to the big bully on the block?

Didn't Muschamp get pissed about his contract negotiations with the AD? So like TerryP said, " why would he want to return to the Barn?" I think the only way Muschamp would consider the HC position if their AD was canned right along with Wingnut.

Auburn friend down here tells me from his sources there is a "rumor" that Tubby will step down on SEC Championship weekend. In the past if he heard that something was going to happen, or someone was hurt and won't play, it pretty much happened. But he said its a rumor, that 2-3 different people he has talked to up in Alex City have all said......so whatever.

If he gets fired, he gets out of the 6 million buy out. If he resigns, I guess you just negotiate that out and he can go someplace else.

That was part of the "chatter" going around at the time. It had to do with a clause that Jacobs had put in his new contract basically stating they could fire him and not pay him at any time. Considering they were supposedly offering a "guaranteed" contract it didn't quite fit. There were issues revolving around Tubs taking another job and how that would effect Muschamp. There were also issues about the possibility of Muschamp leaving and how that would effect his contract in terms of a buyout. (he didn't want one but one was thrown it.)

Muschamp had a few things to say about the contract ordeal, but very little of that was reported widely.

There was chatter about a ticket ordeal as well.

I know that Muschamp got into it with a few of the other staff members regarding the way they were coaching. In a manner of speaking, it was a lot like what Franklin just dealt with.

Auburn is irrelevant in my eyes, they have the best coach they can get right now. With all the rumors about the leaders in charge it will take a Very powerful, high profile coach to clean that mess. Much like our situation a short time ago, only with the irrelevant, step sister, second tier Alabama team, tag on it. JMHO. Coach Tubberville is a decent coach, they should stick with him.

The fly in the ointment is that looking back as far as jetgate, it is obvious that the man who call the shots (Lowder) isn't a Tuberville fan, and the whole mess around Franklin's firing has left a bad taste in the mouth of other trustees. That plus a mediocre recruiting class last time and a worse one this go-around has greased the skids for him. While I hope they keep him forever, I think he's gone unless they can be Dr. Frankenstein and resurrect a dead offense enough to go 4-1 at least down the stretch.

There are some really good comments here about tuberville. I think the most spot on comment here is the fascination with where Auburn perceives their football program to be. How many National Titles do they legitimately have? How many SEC titles? The numbers just don't compete with Bama, or some other big name programs. Nothing wrong with that. But we see this happen at other state institutions that are lesser in their success to a big state University. Take NC State for example. Clearly, UNC is the big dog in that state in Basketball, and even Duke might be bigger. NC State is #3. From when I lived up there though, the Wolfpack fans have some seriously delisional thoughts of where that program should be. Consider Texas A&M. They are clearly the lesser football program in Texas, but they have had some success in the past, and believe that they naturally should always be there. It's just not the case. Texas rules the state in recruiting, and what they don't get, folks like Oklahoma and LSU get.

Common little brother mentality. The sooner auburn comes to the realization that they have come to a great new plateau in the program (6 in a row...), why not be content and keep working to get better? Do they completely have to scrap the whole coaching staff and mentality of the offense to be different? It's like starting all over again.

Also, it wouldn't hurt my feelings to see them hire someone with no HC experience. That is just even more we will beat them and out-recruit them. But if I were them, and they think they truly are ready to make the next step, then it's gonna cost big $$$$$$. It took a lot of money for us to send Shula packing, and even more to bring in the quality we have now. Auburn should be looking not for another "up-and-comer" but rather an established winner at the collegiate or pro level. I honestly don't think they have the ability to make a hire like that, which would truly be an upgrade.

Good point about the "little brother" issue, but NC State isn't the best example. They have two basketball NC's in their belt. Granted the last one was in the eighties, but they do love their hoops fully as much as Tar Heels and Dookies. They have had nationally prominent coaches such as Norm Sloan and Jim Valvano.

i don't think that tubby is going to go anywhere. I just think that older auburn fans are starting to have flash backs to the 70s when bama dominated everyone. This scares them very much.

Who knows, they may not fire him. But I find it hard to see where they can turn this thing around and at least finish 4-1 down the stretch. Their homecoming game will be the only game they will be favored in . I once coached with a guy who said this about a really good athlete that we had that wasn't going to be eligible and how it was going to affect his basketball team and my baseball team, " If Jesus Christ himself drug his cross up to the flagpole and climbed onto it, that still won't get this kid eligible!" I have the same thought when it comes to the Barn making a serious run down the last 5 game stretch.
