I would like to hear what Pat Dye thinks

THIS JUST IN:
*******************************************************

Reporter: "Coach Dye, what do you think about the University of Alabama hiring Willis away from Auburn?"

Pat Dye: "Wa....gosnorfle is wubble woo'amooph. Weddlew and (unintelligble) fwoe tumph. You Wance Thompson camble fwuuuje."

Reporter: "Sir, can you please open you mouth when you speak? It sounds like you have been stuffing jock straps in your mouth and drinking whiskey all day. This is a serious move by Alabama and we would like to report your thoughts on the matter."

Pat Dye: "As I sowef, weswoogle mawph nibleedgey."

Reporter: (Under his breath)"Hell with this. I am going to Arizona to start a UFO cult."

Nice one and you almost had to buy me a new monitor.

But you did forget to include his story on reading "How to kill a Blackbird"

I'll admit that I drank some of the DuBose Kool Aid. It was impossible to foresee the catastrophe that would result from his hire, but our athletic administrators should have protected us from ourselves when CGS retired. It was asking a lot for a guy who was only one season removed from being a position coach, and had never had the responsibility for anything on the offensive side of the ball, or the full scope of recruiting, to take the reins. I'm pretty sure that rather than being involved with the Logan Young, Ronnie Cottrell, Ivy Williams goings on, he was simply clueless about them. That spoke to his naivete more than anything else.

And now back to regular programming on the James Willis hire thread.

Psychojoe...

No offense taken here. Was just clarifying that I was not taking a shot a Dubose - can see where it might have been perceived that way given the post to which I was responding.

I was underwhelmed with the schematic performance of our defense in 1996 when Dubose was the DC. I know this might sound like '50/50' hindsight, but I never bought into the argument his performance as the DC merited his promotion.

With the exception of the SECCG in '96, the defense wasn't too shabby despite DuBose.

What I see missing here in this conversation is the distinction between a DL coach (which I call a position coach) vs a DC/DL. Our DL wasn't too shabby in '96 either.
