šŸˆ Report: AJ McCarron skipped the Senior Bowl because he believes he’s a top-20 pick

* * According to John Middlekauf of 95.7 The Game, Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron skipped out on the Senior Bowl because he believes he’ll be drafted in the top 20.

My sources say AJ McCarron chose not to play in the Senior Bowl (not b/c of the inj) b/c he thinks he's a top 20 pick— John Middlekauff (@JohnMiddlekauff) January 17, 2014

Report: AJ McCarron Sitting Out Of Senior Bowl Because He Believes He’s A Top-20 Pick

Update: McCarron himself has decided to weigh in on Middlekauf’s report – by comparing its validity to Charles Barkley’s golf swing. In short, he’s denying it. We’re in he-said-she-said territory here.

Earlier: While many believe that former Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron should suit up in this year’s Senior Bowl to help his cause ahead of May’s NFL draft, the three-time national champion has decided to instead train for the combine on his own. Why?

According to John Middlekauff of 95.7 The GAME, McCarron believes he’s going to be a top-20 pick.

Reading in between the lines here, that would mean that McCarron thinks he can only do himself harm by playing in the exhibition game.

McCarron took to Twitter earlier this week with a message for those hating on his decision. While he’s been labeled as a ā€œgame managerā€ in the past, he has been wildly successful as a college quarterback, racking up a 36-4 record as a starter. With Johnny Manziel, Teddy Bridgewater and Blake Bortles all declaring for the draft earlier this year, it’ll be interesting to see if McCarron ends up being right.

i think it's possible that he just wants to be totally healed up before one of the combine/ proday thingies. i don't think his shoulder is totally healed up.

he will do well in the NFL. There are plenty of teams that could use a QB like AJ.
