| FTBL RECOMMENDED Rule changes

Nothing in there's really bad, it'll just take getting used to it. The 40 second rule will provide more consistency. I heard an SEC referee on Jim Dunaway's show last summer that said they are deliberate and do not rush to mark the ball ready for play out of a desire to be consistent. I've seen NFL officials rush to get a ball ready when time is running down. I wonder if the SEC guys will still be instructed to take the same amount of time to get a ball ready for play?

The new clock rule looks good, the out of bounds penalty for kickoffs is a good idea - it's just being consistent with the recent move of the kickoff to the 30. I really like the elimination of the 5 yard facemask - no harm, no foul.

The incidental 5-yard facemask penalty has been eliminated. The only facemask penalties that will be called will be for 15 yards.

I am glad to see this rule change. If its incidental, then why is it a penalty? I look at it like this. They don't call pass interference if the DB and Receiver get their legs tangled up so why call a penalty if someone's hand accidentally touches a face mask.

I don't like the NFL rule, personally, as it seems to result in fewer plays. The Super Bowl was an example. The Giants scored on their opening drive. The Patriots took the ball and still had posession when the first quarter ended. I want to see more football, not less. Why can't the teams get the next play off within 30 seconds of the end of the last one. It would put more of the decision making back on the field, which IMO is where it belongs.

40/25-second play clock

I think this could have helped save Shulas job for another season.

If a kickoff goes out of bounds, the receiving team will have the option of taking the ball on its own 40-yard line. The previous rule gave the receiving team the ball on the 35-yard line.

I think Lee Tiffin just woke from a dead sleep sweating bullets. He kicked a couple out of bounds last season, and Saban went ballistic.

"horse collar" tackle, where the defender grabs inside the back collar of the shoulder pads to pull the runner down, will now be a personal foul.

I've been wonder why it took this long to come up.
