🏈 Quick update on Ty Simpson's future...

Got an update on Simpson today and I'm told that as of now he is heavily leaning to return to UA for an additional and final season in 2026. While it wasn't mentioned, I assume at least to some degree, his health (back) is factoring into the decision. And before anyone jumps off their roof, UA is well aware of the plan, and yes, it could change in the coming weeks (this is a weak QB class which could become a factor in his decision). DeBoer does not want to lose Keelon Russell, and if Ty returns, the wolves will be at the gates trying to get him. I'm told keeping him will be a top priority.

Got 2 good QBs coming in too.

Be awesome if he came back. But a first round draft choice. U got to go. To much money involved. Life changing $$$$

I saw something on espn app projecting him in mid first round.

Hope they keep Ty and Keelon has the maturity to take another year to get ready if he's not ready to be number 1 yet, most true sophomores aren't.

I really like Simpson but honestly most QB guys have said he's at worst in the top 25 picks I do not for a minute believe I'd stay in college when I got a chance to turn pro and get a shot leading a NFL team. I know the sports and $$ has changed things but he could get seriously hurt next year and be done forever, he'd much rather have that rookie guaranteed $$ vs college NIL where it can cut off if you're not playing.

I think it's an interesting storyline but the guy needs to go pro if he's a 1st round projection and so far he is slated for the 1st round.

His performance tomorrow, and potentially in playoff will determine if he stays or go. if he plays well tomorrow, and then have few weeks off, and then play well.. that alone will likely cement his 1st round pick.

Just got back home... reading the replies... Couple of things to keep in mind:

Mock draft and youtube type evals mean nothing in terms of the process of a player's decision. They just don't factor in. Players will be getting their draft Advisory Committee grades very soon, those factor in. Beyond that, the staff and agents will gather info from scouts/teams and use that feedback. One thing not factored into the Advisory Committee's evals are the players medicals, which right now, would be a likely red flag issue with Simpson. Other things factor in as well, NIL being one of them. In Simpson's case, his limited starts will be one of them, for example.

All this to say, things can change quickly. In my experience, especially with QB's, they usually don't... but with this being a light QB class, that could easily figure into things and cause a change of mind. One of the other highly rated QB's, Oregon's Dante Moore is also expected to stick around or another season thanks to a massive NIL deal with the Ducks. A simple decision like that, could possibly trigger Simpson to make the jump as his value would only increase.

Lastly, I tried to say this earlier, but Simpson returning does not automatically mean Bama loses Russell. As I said a moth or so ago... this is a GOOD problem.

How ridiculous has college football become that teams would rather have a young quarterback with no experience over an experienced quarterback simply because of the possibility of a transfer? Personally I’d love to have Simpson return because he’s experienced, extremely intelligent and very talented. If Russell transfers then so be it. The transfer portal is screwing up college football. These kids need to understand that you have just as much if not more of a chance to be drafted high if you wait your turn versus playing right away.

Well.....I think he should go. Sure everyone talks about high draft pick, yada yada yada.

If he can go anywhere in the first or early second round, I would probably jump, depending on the team that drafts you
I have a buddy that is a big Rams fan and he asks me if I think Ty would be a good fit. I think if he could go to a team like that and sit under someone like Stafford for a year or two, he would be in the most ideal situation. Being a high draft pick is great and all for money, but most likely you'll be with a garbage team that spends all their money on you and you won't have the people around (or in front of) you to be successful.

JMOI hope Ty goes to the NFL after this season. If he returns Bama might lose not one but 2 QBs. (10 and 12)

Interested to know where Russell would go... what are his options? I'm sure there are some out there, but if he's in a system he likes with a team he likes with the money he likes, why would you go somewhere else? He'd have a year to learn and get better and maybe even more reps in mop up or if Ty got hurt... if he transfers, what top level team is taking him with WR talent he can throw to? Maybe LSU? I'm not sure all the QB needs out there, but a lot of best teams have pretty solid locked in starters for next year... on some very good talent sitting on the bench already.
