🏈 QB Next Year: Sims or McCarron?

Just my opinion--I think it is McCarron and it isn't close. Sims has a nice arm but ZERO game experience. McCarron has at least been on the field and such this year. Didn't I hear that Saban had said if GMac had gone down in Pasadena last year that they would've burned AJ's redshirt to play him instead of Star Jackson?

Sims will see the field some, I don't think Saban will have a true two-QB system. Think about it this way--if Julio and Mark both leave, do you also want a QB on the field that has not played outside of the practice field? Sims will have his chance, I just don't think it will be next year.

I dont totally disagree with your end, but the way you arrive at that conclusion just is not valid. 1. I HIGHLY doubt you "heard" Coach Saban say that about AJ last year, for what reason pray tell would he have said that to anyone, you may have heard that on this board but Coach is not the type to say who he would've played had the starter gone done-- nor would any coach if he is half decent. and 2. What does that have to do with Sims playing?? Sure AJ may have played over Star but that doesn't prove anything regarding Sims next year all that tells us is that AJ was better than Star... was there ever a doubt of that??. and 3. Not totally directed at you b/c everyone seems to be of this opinion, but obviously you're the most recent one to say it, how can anyone think that AJ's <90 mop-up-duty snaps this year give him such a huge advantage??? Sure it means that he does have game experience, but seriously? It's like y'all think he's started and played an entire game...

Going into the Spring I think there is no clear advantage to where we can definitively say that one has more of an advantage RIGHT NOW than the other. All we can speculate on is how they look in terms of talent and potential, the amount of experience each has at the moment is not/ will not be a factor, guarantee.

Saban may have not outright said that but he DID confirm that AJ had been upgraded to the 2nd string QB for the Rose Bowl, it doesnt take a genius to realize what that would've been had G-Mac gotten hurt.

And I dont see how u can so that he doesn't have an advantage over Simms. Regardless of how you feel about HOW MUCH playing time he's had, hes had SOME and Simms has had none. Add that to the fact that he's been in the system for over 2 years and has been able to sit and watch for 2 whole seasons, its pretty dumb to suggest that AJ doesnt have the advantage right now.

Several weeks ago Saban was asked about AJ and his responce was basically that AJ's ability was never any question, just decision making.....and when asked about Sims, Saban stated he was ready to play. Ive heard rumblings that the team really likes Sims alot...not that there is a problem with AJ but the team as a whole thinks alot of Sims.

You're alluding to a press conference after one of our blow out games right? If so, I remember him talking about Simms and ur kind of taking what he said out of context. He said that Simms was ready to PLAY in the game in mopup duty, not suggesting that Simms was ready to go out there and start or something.

AJ was the #2 QB going into the Rose Bowl--that information was known a year ago, and confirmed right below your post by a fellow-poster here.

While it doesn't have anything to do with Sims per se, it does indicate that he has a good bit of confidence in AJ or he wouldn't have had him as option B in the biggest game of the year.

I never said he's started and played an entire game. Obviously it was mop-up duty but he has GAME experience that Sims simply doesn't offer. Saban has said multiple times (yes, I've heard this with my own ears) he'd prefer experience over raw talent. Sims has been taking snaps in practice and such. AJ has run plays in practice with the first offense and has been on the field in game situations. It isn't the best experience in the world but it certainly offers more college experience than Sims will bring to the table. Will Sims be the starter? It is a possibility. But if one has an advantage RIGHT NOW, it would clearly be the guy that Saban has shown confidence in previously and offers some game experience.
