šŸˆ Post game discussion— Vent thread

@TheChief One thing I'll give you. You are consistent.

It sure seems to me since Battle didn't fire Grant you've not been able to pull yourself out of the catechism that's filled with a lot of complaints—most of which are knee-jerk conclusions.

Was this loss Sims fault….No

Could good quarterback play have masked our other mistakes and perhaps led us to victory…Yes

Does scoring three points in the second half mean you got good quarterback play…No

Would Jacob Coker have given good quarterback play…the only way to know is to put him in the game

Not saying anyone knew to put Coker in before this game, I just hope this performance gets him some PT against Arkansas

And while we're venting, what's up with the Kiffen play calling script...

1st and 10 – run
1st and 10+ - pass
2nd > 5 – pass
2nd < 6 – run
3rd and 2 or less – run
3rd and 3 or more – pass

I think we only deviated from this script twice...a draw play on a 3rd and 15 and a play action pass on 1st and 10 that was dropped by Howard. Easy for Wommack to call defenses when he knows what's coming. Remember when we had McElwain and frequently called plays that caught the defense off-guard?

@TheChief , I see you dodged my questions about you but chose rather to once again bash Sims. So Blake was lined up in the secondary too? He was at corner or safety when we had THREE TDs thrown on us by Bo Wallace in the second half? Our defense gave us a chance to win? Are you freaking kidding me? Our secondary played Three Blind Mice during the second half.
Who gives a $^*! About Lou Holtz? Was he on the sidelines yesterday? You want to bring in people that have no business in your argument.
Do us all a favor, just post on here when it pertains to your avatar.

Why the name calling and , for that matter, why the pointing fingers? It wasn't one play or one player on our team that beat us and it wasn't ole Miss, although they played their hearts out, It was the majority of the players and they will have to live with if they left all on the field or not. So what, Chief has his opinion, everyone has an opinion and everyone has to get over the loss in their own way but beating someone up on here, might I add, that should be like family is detrimental to the entire board. One of my ways of getting over this is to come on this board and talk it out with all of you and I can't do that if everyone is at each others throats. I am off my soapbox now, carry on.

Sims did ok, but just ok. He did give us a chance to win at the end but made several poor decisions on the day. How many times did we target arguably the nations best WR in the second half? Our top 2 RBs combined for 160 yds rushing and outr too 2 Receivers combined for 170 yds and we still only scored 1 TD. Pitiful.

And what's with our special teams play? Gave up 2 big KO returns, fumbled 2 kicks, missed 2 FG's, didn't field a ton of punts that cost a bunch of critical yards... Special teams was nothing short of horrible.

I've worried all season about our secondary. Many here come to the defense of Cyrus and Co. but they just aren't a string secondary. You guys can't keep arguing against that. And Bo is not an excellent passer. He's usually turnover prone. Aside from the break we got on the no-call when Cyrus strips the ball and scores, our secondary stunk.

It's ONE OF the poorest performances we've had coming off a bye week in the Saban era. Stupid costly penalties, poor play selection in many circumstances, lost secondary, it just wasn't what we're accustomed to seeing.

I don't think you can lay this loss at the foot of any one person in particular. Anytime we lose, there are multiple reasons. I do think losing Drake hurt the offense perhaps even more than Lane would have thought. The play calling looked a bit out of whack (to me) most of the game. Again, I don't think any one player or coach is to blame.

The defense gave us a shot at winning, till the DBs gave up big plays. Now, i know that during an offensive play, the camera stays on the QB and when a play isn't made, we blame the QB. You can't put the blame on Sims. The Ole Miss DBs had our receivers under a blanket the whole game. No one could get open for Sims to throw it....and when someone besides Cooper did, half the time, they dropped it. if we are gonna win, our receivers can't drop half of the passes thrown to them. And it baffles the mind at how we are still having that many turnovers, and turnovers at crucial times, after what we saw during the Florida game. And i don't even want to talk about the penalties. I'd rather hit myself in the head with a hammer. This was a team loss, not a Sims loss.

http://bamahammer.com/2014/10/05/opinion-alabama-football-needs-to-be-fun-again/

I like this opinion piece on Bamahammer.com. It sums up some thoughts I've had about Alabama football for about a year now.

Yeah, that piece really resonates with me. We need to stop being so conservative all the way around. It's almost like we play not to lose these days instead of being the aggressor and playing to win. I mentioned it to my buddy last night. I said, "Ole Miss is playing way more aggressively than we are and their coaches are calling a way more aggressive game." Playing not to lose usually results in a loss.

And I agree, it seemd like that last year, too.

I'll pull up the thread from earlier at some point. Guys, we had to expect this. With Sims as the best we have, this will not be the last.

Now, argue all you want about his numbers, but he did those against much inferior defenses.

We saw this coming. Hopefully, Bama can be in a nice bowl this year.
Yep. All on Sims. Every bit of it. I heard he even drove the team buses. Every one of them.

You guys really can't read, can you. Sims cannot do enough to overcome the other team deficiencies.

You win. I will not state any other weaknesses I perceive in this team. I thought this was a forum board. Apparently, this is a "praise all thing Bama board". My bad.

@TheChief I'm going to go ahead and let it be known that I do get upset when someone throws criticism at a QB. I played the position in HS, walked on as a QB here, and then coached the position. I took unwarranted criticism when I played it. I listened to the bitching and moaning at how everything was Gary Hollingsworth's fault in the 90 season after everyone had kissed his azz in 89. He was the same guy, but we had NUMEROUS injuries to start 90 and a new offensive system that was a throwback to the STONE AGE. I just take exception to criticism on the QB. We do have other weaknesses and I think you would agree that I have expressed those on here as well. I'm just manning up here to let you know that I can sometimes go a little psycho when it comes to my QBs.

I don't think anyone at all is getting upset with the fact you're sharing your opinion and saying the bad things we did, because I think there are a good number of the rest of us that have said some pretty bad things about the way the team performed. I simply think everyone got mad because you blamed it all on one guy when there was clearly a lack of support from anywhere else on the field. Yeldon, Robinson, and Scott are the only three I saw play hard from start to finish without any glaring weaknesses in their game. Now, I'm sure film will show some things here and there they all did wrong, but the team effort was poor, not just Blake Sims. I have not hid my opinion on the matter, so I completely agree that this is a public forum where you can air out your frustrations, so let it fly, but be ready to back those up when folks don't necessarily agree.

Here's my 2 cents worth...

1. We need to PROTECT THE BALL!!!!!
2. We need to be MENTALLY FOCUSED and not have STUPID, STUPID penalties.
3. AND, in my opinion, the OL coach needs to be looked at a lot closer.

On the last point, last year, with the new OL Coach (not naming names, but we know who he is) the line
played much poorer. I understand that we lost a HUGH amount of talent from previous year, but, at this
point, the line play is STILL not up to par!!! I saw, too many times, a lineman missing a block and then turning
to look at the guy he just missed while one or two others ran past him into the backfield. THAT IS NOT
ACCEPTABLE!!!
These are the "little" things that get you beat!!!

I thought we looked like we haven't played in a month. For the last few years we have played like crap after a bye-week. Saturday was no different. What looked like Half- ass efforts on both sides of the ball., was more like the kids played to not make a mistake, as opposed to going out there full speed and playing the game. Kind of like a batter swinging to "not strike out" as opposed to trying to knock the sh!% out of the ball.
The offensive play-calling never allowed our offense to get into a rhythm. The only kid that looked like he was ready to play was Yeldon, imo. Henry was not hitting the holes like he did the last few games. I also imagine the OM defense knew he was getting the ball if he was in the game, and he was running to the left. The offensive play calling sucked. Maybe it was over thought, with that extra week. It sure looked like it.
