I'm not real sure how many of you thought Alabama was going to go undefeated this year, but I bet if we polled before the season, and folks put their crimson glasses down, very few would have said the Tide would go without a loss in the regular season. I figured Alabama would lose 1 for sure, and that was before I realized just how good the West really was. A good argument could be made right now that LSU is the worst team in the division... that's how good/scary the West is.
Now, obviously, if Bama can limit things to just 1 loss (which would still be a tall order), losing to Ole Miss now is the best case scenario in terms of the Playoff picture. The good news is, the remaining road games are with the lesser (lesser being relative here) teams (Arkansas and LSU). We get A&M, MSU, and auburn at home, which will help (not counting Tennessee on the road).
The bad news is, we've lost our most versatile offensive player for the season, in "The Drake" (God bless the kid), and looks like our starting center is out for possibly a couple weeks. On the field, our special teams continue to ruin the bed sheets in a myriad of different ways. And in the mental errors department, we continue to blow off toe after toe with silly penalties that kill drives in or near the red zone (putting our kicker in bad situations, though he should be hitting some of those kicks). On defense, we are seeing breakdowns in coverage that we aren't used to seeing. All that type of stuff is correctable... but it's time now to start seeing it get corrected, not linger or worsen...
Bottom line is, Alabama still has everything on the table. Nothing has really changed. Teams have adjusted to us in some ways though, so things are not as easy as they were 4 years ago. We will get dogfights in just about every game, including next week. There is a reason ranked teams rush the field when they beat us. That doesn't happen consistently with any other team. Our logo might as well be a bullseye, but then again, it's been that way since not long after our team took a train to Pasadena to make Washington's ass quit.
The more things change, the more things stay the same...
