| FTBL Position comparisons: '07 team to '08 team...

It's well known around here that Saban is fond of using multiple backs. Ingram can/will work himself into the rotation this year and become a "run between the tackles" kind of back. I don't see this doing anything but adding depth and improving our RBs as a group.

On some level I'd say you're right but five years of having third string rb's that were basically converted kick off and punt return specialist has taught me a valuable lesson. Also watching teams like LSU who can "plug in" their third string rb that was a HS parade all american and not miss a beat has learned me something as well. Quality depth in the SEC is imperative and not an option. I think the fact that Mark Ingram (a true freshman) has moved up to the third string spot on Coach Saban's depth chart speaks volumes about him. The guy isn't a scat back or an undersized back. He's over 200 lbs, can run between the tackles and according to what I've read can take it to the house.

That in and of itself is an improvement.

I sure wouldn't be because he would have been talking about Tristan Davis or Eric Smith. Both of those guys are very talented RB's.

I can't say I'm terribly surprised you tried to bring an Auburn analogy into this conversation when what you have asserted has been refuted with solid facts.

Mark Ingram hasnt ever graced the field yet Terry.

Very solid facts your using (99% of this thread is Opinion)

True.

That "opinion" is based on what I've heard from players around Mark. We have more than a handful on offense that understand what a good RB looks like even if it is just based on scrimmages and practices.

His success so far is magnified in my eyes considering how stout our DL is looking right now against the run.

I think you have to put some credibility into Nick Saban's opinions and actions, and his actions up to this point have said that Mark Ingram is a good enough RB to beat out Roy Upchurch (a three year college player)and be a part of the RB rotation.

Also with the DL. Last Saban didn't give out much praise to many parts of the team. The team faltered and we then realized why. This season he's handing out praise left and right. So his praises and compliments are very tough to come by but should be viewed as accurate because his criticisms have shown to be accurate as well.
