šŸˆ Philon gone.

In both cases (Philon and Taylor) they knew ahead of time about the possible "greyshirt". The coaches told them they might have to because of scholly limitations and their injuries and I guess they decided they didn't want to do that

Man Duder, why can't all Auburn fans be nice like you. I'm sure you have your fair share of Alabama fans who are un-tolerable, but I've had this guy going at me on Facebook for like 4 weeks about how Alabama "oversigns". No matter what I say, he won't just be quiet.

If folks can get away with it, they oversign. Look at Miami. I think they signed something like 33. Gray shirts have been going on for years. John Parker Wilson was a gray shirt, and I heard Jay Barker talk about it happening when he was at UA 20 years ago. It only matters because CNS is high profile and Bama is winning.

Along those same lines a bit, I rarely watch the local news, but caught it at 6pm today. Mike Raita (specifically), though other are doing it as well, tried his best to make a big deal out of the 1 year "renewable" scholarships that UA was offering as opposed to the optional 4 year scholarships that could be extended. It's just silly to try to make a big deal out of something that has been that way for years, nothing has changed... but it's Alabama and Nick Saban, so let's create some controversy and boost ratings by insinuating that UA and Saban are being unethical all of a sudden... Bottom line is, if Saban wasn't going to abide by his scholarship promises, there are guys on the roster now who would not be, and it ain't hard to figure out who those handful of guys are.

Building on what Porter just said. Nothing has changed, just the wording.

To make that even simpler, if you want to discontinue a series of one year scholarships—which is what everyone was one last year and we are on this year—you go through the identical process for four years scholarships.

Same scholarship.

Two additional thoughts, that first I've been trying not to say.

SMflake, do you realize just how late you were on this post? Just sayin'...

Anyway...

I'm surprised no one has pointed to this cow and said, "that's a cow." This four year bit is nothing more than trying to put a positive light on a dismal national signing day.

I got a text about 36 hours ago that sums this up, a little.

What do Cyrus, Brent, and TJ have in common?

130 something posts about it on another forum... :nana:

Like the stages of grief, this story has moved on to the "why" aspect. And, it's easy to tell this story on both sides.

I agree Duder. What do you think of y'all's class? Got some pretty good pick ups

Filled some needs, whiffed on a few others. I would have liked to see a back-up plan or two for the d-lineman we missed; we're still pretty thin up front. I'm not the typical chicken-little Auburn fan. It isn't a bad class and we still have three more people left on the board. While this class lacks the pizzazz our last three have had, we got some playmakers, which we desperately needed, and have a few schollies to carry over for early enrollees.

Four weeks? If you would have taken four minutes you'd see how badly Auburn has over signed over the last decade. As a result, that guy would have shut up three weeks, six days, 23 hours and 56 minutes ago...and counting.

Being a smart ass set aside...

He's going off of what he's read that started with oversigning.com. Ask him about that site, then both of you go there together.

You'll find the following...Auburn ranked at the top of the SEC in oversigning since the early 2000's. I believe the report goes back a decade. Seriously, it's to the tune of about 20 more players over the last 10 years. Not a big deal, they've averaged just over 28 a year. We've averaged a tad over 26.

You'll find all of this information there. He'll find something else to bring up mid to late week.

BTW, if he's has a lick of sense, he'll have a perfect retort for you on that.

I have my doubts he'll put it together. I wonder if Duder will...I know some like Matt can, and probably will.

Trust me I did, the problem is when I debated with him he continually brought up Auburn biased reporters blogs and notes from news clippings. I tried bringing up oversigning.com and other sites on Auburns attrition rate as well. Sadly, the kid just doesn't get it. Finally I just referred to him as one of those "Bitter" people who sees successful team and wants nothing but bad things for it. I understand the rivalry, but the pot calling the kettle black is not really a good way to start an argument, haha. I'm just venting frustration on the topic though, carry on about Philon, don't want to derail the thread.
