🏈 outside pass rush

Yes, I agree. We were more adept on playing big, physical and kind of stop-running type of defensive-ends, but now we find that the personel is more athetical, disruptive, with bigger pass-rushing skills, so definitely I expect a bigger role from 'em playing off the edge.

that is what i've been wondering for the entire off season. as much as the secondary got bashed last year, i think the lack of an effective pass rush is just as much or more to blame. if they are ineffective this year, you can expect more of the same outcomes against our experienced pass-oriented teams...

i didn't see much pressure coming from our linemen in saturday's game. i don't think this area of our team has improved very much since last season. our linebackers however are the bomb. most of our pass rush this year will again come from linebackers and safety/corner blitzes. this makes it tough against good quick passing teams like Soco where our first loss came last year. we had to leave LBs inside to protect against the run and to try to pressure the QB b/c linemen weren't going to get to him. that opened up short passing lanes and they ate us alive.

i don't look for that scenario to be much different this year unfortunately. we will need to score more points against quick passing teams to win.

dont see where u get that observation after one game... i think Damion Square and Quinton Dial can and will get alot of pressure on QBs, Ed Stinson as well... but both Courtney Upshaw and Donta Hightower play ON the line at times and they will def. bring pressure of the edges.

well... unless they were holding back against kent st. the linemen didn't apply much pressure to their QB who took a lot of pass attempts. as i said above, most of our pressure this year will likely come from LBs lined up on the line or blitzing... not from linemen.
i guess it's possible that as the season goes on, these new linemen will get better at finding the QB. i guess i just find it hard to believe that they're going to do a better job of getting off the blocks of penn st. or arky's linemen vs. the kent st. team we just played. i hope they prove me wrong.
from my recollection of the game Dial had 1 sack. did any other linemen have a sack? i remember one play where dont'a hit the QB high and a lineman had him around the feet. i don't know who they credited with that sack.
