šŸ“” Orgeron Out Season's End: The LSU coaching search.

I think Coach Moore probably took the complete truth with him to the grave, but there are those very high up in the AD at the time who believe that while Petrino was a strong possibility, a deal with Cutcliffe was also highly likely had Saban said nope. But thank God Saban said yes. Ridiculous to look back to that moment and see how much has changed for the better in more ways than on the field. To loosely quote Admiral Yamamoto, they awakened a sleeping giant.

I am Glad Coach Moore got to see some of the success, such a nice man and great ambassador of Alabama football. Meeting him was one of the many highlights of my life.

I met Coach Moore about a year before he passed. He came to speak at the Shelby County Alumni Association. Everything you guys have said...yeah. What an incredibly nice man! Great leader!
I met him at George Teague's fundraiser, we here at RTB sponsored the foundation and raised money at the time for it. They were doing a pick up basketball game of some Alabama greats and I had a football that I wanted all of them to sign so we could raffle it off and give the money to the foundation. Coach Moore was there at the game, I went over and chatted with him for a bit. Asked him about working for The Bear, stuff like that. I could tell he had a lot on his mind, This was when Shula was coach. Anyway he was gracious enough to sign the ball, and the very hat I had on my head. Shook his hand and told him it was a honor for me. He said the honor was his. Such a great guy. So calm mannered and thoughtful. Pure Class.

Pardon my candor, but Coach Ogre has always struck me as an ignorant, neanderthal thug who cultivates a classless cesspool environment wherever he goes (punch self in face, here). I hate to see him leave the bayou. The real question for me is whether LSU is as elite of a job at this time as the LSU faithful seem to think it is. Based on what I'm seeing and hearing, they seem to think they can get anyone they choose. I'm not so sure about that.
I'll answer your question. LSU is most definitely an elite job. Bama was able to win 10 games with Bill Curry and Mike Dubose as HC. LSU was able to win two NCs with morons as HC. Miles and Orgeron.

Why is it elite?

Or more so than Texas or uscw or penn state or Others

Its ONE of top jobs. But hardly elite

2 HCs of late have won NCs. A player fell in their lap ( or unbelievably lucky) Same as AU with Cam....

We are old, we remember when they really sucked. LOL Mention Curley Hallman and Gerry Dinardo and the elite status goes way down, lol

I'll echo what 50+ asked. What, in your opinion, makes it elite? When I think of elite, I think of; Bama (of course), Ohio State, USC, Notre Dame (I hate writing that), Texas, etc. Even Michigan up until recently. Programs with deep history. As 50+ said, Coach Ogre caught lightning in a bottle with a transfer QB a la Chizik and $cam. They are fourth in SEC championships with 11 (Bama 27, Georgia 13, Tennesse 13). Are Georgia and Tennessee elite programs? I would say they are a higher end program, but not elite. And, now especially at this time, I don't think they can have the pick of the litter like some of their fans think they can. For example, why would Lane Kiffin switch from Ole Miss to LSU? That's like switching from a 7 to an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10. USCw for a second try? Sure I get that. I think they may have a harder time finding an elite coach than they think.

To me, this is an odd analogy.

Alabama has had every coach win 10 games in a season since Xen Scott 100 years ago (1920) sans one, Ears Whitworth. LSU has had 11 head coaches that have not reached the 10 win plateau in the same time frame.

A player fell in their lap ( or unbelievably lucky) Same as AU with Cam....
It wasn't the same as Cam but they were fortunate to land Burrow: he was headed to Tennessee before Clay Travis started his 'rants,' and it was then a Nebraska move until he announced he was headed to Baton Rouge. I still haven't read or heard any legit reason Scott Frost told him no (rumored to be told "no room in the inn.") Martinez was in his freshman year in '18; Burrow could have and would have won that job over Bunch.

Recruiting advantages itself create an elite environment. Add in their fan support and I'd rather be there than USC or Texas. Pen State sucks, so I would never want to be there in rhe first place. LSU also gets their coach's back, because if Orgeron and Wade weren't fired, hell, you could do just about anything with the school support.
