and that is the lowest of the low... and nothing is lower than a pig, wallowing in the mud.
That's right... the Arkiesauce Razorpigs in their mud bath.
Yes, boss hawg has been caught with his proverbial pants down in the presence of a female underling ala Mike DuBose 2.0.
His credibility with the moms and dads of 18 year old high school kids is officially shot, and his own players' opinions of him will be down the tubes. The respect factor is officially diminished to virtually nil.
...and yet the vast majority of hawgs can't see it. Reading their forums, the vast majority want to keep him.
One thread on the favorite haunt of our resident hawgs is titled "This will won't matter after we beat Alabama on Sept. 15th"
Seriously.
Your married head coach has an inappropriate relationship with an underling who is engaged to an AD employee, lies about it to his boss, and the criteria for redemption is beating Alabama? Seriously swine?
Officials around the Alabama program have made enough missteps and inappropriate behaviors over the last 15 years for any shred of self-righteousness we might have to be smashed into dust. Regardless of that, speaking for the collective Alabama fan base, I feel comfortable saying "have you lost what remnants of a trichinosis infested brain you had left?!?"
The issue isn't simply the affair.
The issue isn't hiring or promoting an underling who is having an affair with you, thereby opening up the potential for a lawsuit.
The issue isn't simply lying to your boss.
...it is all these things - PLUS the fact that Petrino has to face his players, and moreso NEW RECRUITS' MOMS AND DADS.
Trust us... we have experience in this. Mike DuBose may have already been a bad coach when the news of his illicit relationship with a departmental secretary came to light, but the worse mistake in the whole sordid mess was our willingness to forgive him. That event provided so great a distraction that football was an afterthought for him. Recruiting went south and we were sent into a downward spiral that took the better part of a DECADE to recover from. Debbiegate wasn't the only problem coming out of the DuBose era, but many Bama fans consider it to be the trigger event that sent our program into a downward spiral. There were other issues developing at the time, but consider...
...when you ignore serious moral and ethical issues of the person who is the FACE of your football program, what else are you willing to ignore for the sake of winning? If you tolerate this sort of thing, the next thing you know, Walmart will be purchasing an overweight defensive lineman for six figures and the NCAA will be so deep into your athletics department, ten years later they will be handing down penalties for players using too much toilet tissue.
Bobby Petrino's actions and attempt at cover-up make his continuance as head coach at Arkansas borderline impossible. Regardless of your continually over-inflated sense of the worth of your program, you will not have the great season you dream about in your little deluded piggy brains. The trickle-down affect of this whole affair will cost you games this season. There will be games where you need players to lay it all on the line for the sake of the coach and program - and this event will be sitting in the back of their minds. When asked to dig deep and pull out extra effort, they will dig deep and see coach lying. If you keep him, he might recover. He might win some games. In a few years, given new recruits and time to forget, he might win some big games... but your program will forever be known as the program that wins at all costs, morals and ethics be darned. If you don't think Auburn, TAMU, LSU, Mizzou, Tennessee, and virtually every other rival is already using this episode to recruit against you, you are even more delusional than I know you to be. Like Arkansas, Mizzou runs a high-powered offense, and they will be going after many of the same recruits you want. You probably thought Pinkel's DUI was going to make it easier to recruit against him...now, not so much.
You can hate me for saying all this.
You can hate your AD for firing Petrino when it happens...
...but the truth is, you should hate him more if he doesn't.
And I am sure you will hate us even more when we beat you by 40 in September, regardless of who the coach is.
Every distraction between now and September will be amplified. Every newscast will mention Petrino's infidelity and lying. Every pregame show will talk about it. Reporters will ask questions about the fallout from it at every press conference for the next year. The players will read, see, and hear. The recruits will read, see, and hear...as will their parents.
Distraction. Distraction. Distraction.
Your first game is against Jacksonville State University from Alabama... you know, the team that beat Ole Miss in the grove 2 seasons ago? JSU is a FCS team, and will likely be highly ranked going into the season. The two-headed QB rotation from the team that beat Ole Miss is still there, and 2 years more experienced. Their offensive line that was rebuilding last season is rebuilt. Their new defensive coordinator has had a full season to implement his system. Their starting tailback is former UGA starting tailback Washaun Ealey. Most of their key players from last season are back.
...and their head coach? A guy by the name of Jack Crowe. A man fired by Arkansas after losing to a D1AA team.
Your players will blow JSU off as an easy win, and be distracted to boot. They are already thinking about the postgame party.
Your coach is thinking "how do I get out of this mess?"
...Jacksonville State is thinking "upset."
You are defending Petrino...trying to justify his actions, and justify the reasons to keep him. None of that is possible.
...but on second thought, I hope you do keep him. I love to see the piggies lose.
