There are several things that need to be changed with refereeing in college basketball and it would clean up the games alot.
One of the things that has ruined NBA (besides for the obvious political crap) is the no call on the illegal screen and it is starting to effect college more and more. Allowing the big at the top to step out after the dribbler passes is illegal.. it is the defenition of a "moving screen". In the NBA because they can't play zone the screener will not only move but will grab and hold to force the switch.. hence all the one on one, mismatch basketball that everyone hates. In college, it's mainly just the big setting a moving screen at the top when the big on d rotates to pick up the driver the screener is rolling to the cup with the guard he screened the only defender that can help without collapsing the whole defense. As a coach, I love the pick and roll and have taught it for years but the step out moving screen really makes it almost impossible to guard a quick guard with goo vision. Hence the reason several quick little guards that are under 6 foot are all of a sudden soo dominant.(cooper & Wheeler) If you give them a guaranteed 2 step lead getting to the paint they will break you down.
I am a huge fan of playing great defense and love to see guys getting a charge call because of great positioning. But they need to stop the guys from sliding over late after the offensive player is in the air already. It doesnt matter if the defender is set if the offensive player had already left his feet and now has no place to land. It's a similar thought to the three point foul they call which I agree with about the defense sliding under the shooter and not giving them clean place to land.
I also think the automatic travleing call everytime a shooter pump fakes and then tries to drive is crap. If the player pump fakes and starts his dribble before his second step he is legal. They have taken the pump fake out of the game which limits the creative offensive player.
