🏈 Ole Miss in 2009: Overdue or Overrated?

As evidenced by the Paul Gattis blog and compilation in the "poll of polls" - the media loves Ole Miss this year.

A few questions to ponder:

Will Houston Nutt and the Ole Miss Rebels be as good as everyone seems to think?

Or, will Ole Miss crash and burn as usual?

Does anyone on this board predict Ole Miss to win the West in 2009?

Have you seen their schedule? It is the answer to their high ranking. Ole Miss will go 9-3 if they just show up for the games. The 3 being; at SC, Bama, and LSU. If they play hard in those 3 games, and they will, they go 11-1. They will not beat Bama, but Bama has been trying to lose to them for the past several years so if this is the year that they finally manage to do that, then they go 12-0.

I see 6 games that they could lose. I don't think they'll lose all of them, but I think they'll likely go 50/50 in those games and go 9-3:

I'm thinking there's one other game, besides the three you mentioned, that'll end up biting them.

Along with our game, there's a real good possibility they drop another one, maybe two, in October. I had Auburn losing to Ole Miss last season and I think there's a good possibility that role will be reversed this fall...and that's with Auburn struggling to finish .500 in league play.

A couple of important dates on their calendar include the 24th of October when Arkansas visits. That game reeks of an offensive shoot out to me.

Along with our game, there's a real good possibility they drop another one, maybe two, in October. I had Auburn losing to Ole Miss last season and I think there's a good possibility that role will be reversed this fall...and that's with Auburn struggling to finish .500 in league play.

This is like the UGA deal in reverse. And I don't think it is as much my being low on UGA as it is being high on their opponents. Same with Ole Miss. I'm more down on their opponents than I am high on them.

It's not so much that I'm down on their opponents as it is I can't help thinking of all the times Nutt was supposed to...and didn't.

I saw the stat a few months ago on teams he's coached that were supposed to do very well and the month of October has hurt his teams every time.

In all honesty, Ole Miss should just roll over Auburn...but then I look at that date and think "stranger things have happened."

I will admit I'm not too fond of playing Ole Piss this year. HDN always plays us well and always has. (minus Fran's last year) The thing that has me bothered is that Nutt will have Ole Miss jacked up to no end to play us. It is the opponent after us that will have a good shot at beating them. His teams will lose to Two Egg Tech and then come in and beat a National Champion like they own them. Remember the last 2 years that HDN has coached he has beat the eventual National Champs.

No doubt it will be a good game between two, very likely, undefeated opponents at the time. We will see.
