| MBB/WBB Oats current contract up for review with the BOT this week.

Will add, there's a good possibility RJ Johnson doesn't make it to UA (off court issue).
In the last week of January I had a couple of people share that Doss has been telling Grissom folks RJ may return this season (pointing to the playoffs.)

Personal opinion: If Clowney's game comes back together and he does head to the league ... we won't like it, per se', but in my view the position won't fall off. The kid from NY, Dioubate, gives up a couple of inches to Noah but makes up for it with his strength—he's got 12 to 15 lbs on Clowney now. If there's anybody that epitomizes Oats' "hard hat" mentality it's Mo. Out of the gate I can see him being as good of a defender as Herb grew into being. He's another of the "big wings" that CNO favors and according to what I've learned CNO expects him to play multiple positions.

Sam Walters is going to be a fan favorite. He's just got that look mom's will love, daughters as well. At the least he'll take Gurley's role, at best he can fit into Miller's. 45%, 3PT average last year.

No inside info yet, but Im not blowing smoke .. Texas fired Beard for domestic violence… Texas is desperate for an image change in hoops..Texas will spend $$$ …
Perhaps blowing smoke was a bad choice of words. Sorry. So, just speculation and I get that.

Who knows but I bet there are incentives offered today we are still unaware of. Time will tell but I feel better after today.

Ive mainly heard sports talk radio scuttlebutt… They wanted Caliparri from Kentucky.. but Oats is the hottest name on the market..

Inside information on them wanting Oats or just blowing smoke?
Oats' contract is approximately $5 million annually through 2029. As it sits right now, Oats has yet to make it past the S16. They're not going to throw ludicrous money at someone who has yet to make the Final Four (even though he has a great chance this season). Also anything Texas throws, Alabama can counter. Yes Texas has stupid money, but Alabama has made its decision that they're willing to really commit to basketball.

One major part here no one is discussing is the relationship Oats has with Byrne. Coaching at Texas can be toxic as fuck.

Lastly, this contract is just the first domino to fall. The new arena is next and is picking up momentum.

There's 2, maybe 3, jobs we'd need to worry a little bit about Oats leaving for and Texas wasn't one of them, even before this extension. For one, they'd have had to pay a $10 million buyout this year... not happening. Second, its really, really hard to imagine Oats moving his family to Austin, TX. He's pretty open about his values... not sure living in Berkeley 2.0 would bring continued happiness in that regard.

Some crap just isn’t worth it, no matter how much money they throw at you! I had someone ask me last night if I thought Oats might ever test the NBA waters. Personally, I don’t see it. Oats comes off to me as one of those guys that loves the connections of those HS coaches, having been there and having that connection with those players at that level. Michigan, Michigan State, Duke are the jobs that would concern me.
