There's one point here that hasn't been touched on by many reporting on the story.
Notre Dame hasn't started classes yet. Their teachers, other students, "honor committee," et al., aren't on campus yet. So, the discipline process involved here can't proceed because the people necessary for it to proceed aren't there.
It's quite a different situation than players being accused of criminal behavior. Or, Golson's deal which happened in the spring semester resulting in fall suspension.
