Man, we need a thread to track basketball departures and additions. I bet JQ and Bed come back, but I could easily be wrong. I posted some research I did a few years ago on the number of underclassmen that enter the draft and how many go undrafted. At least they can come back now, but still a lot don’t and try the G league, international ball, etc. As of now, 4 of our top 5 scorers are leaving or checking out the League. Haven’t heard anything out of Sears yet so I assume he’s sticking with us. With the portal, who knows these days!

Did he get a 1st round grade? He definitely has a high ceiling it would have been nice to see him grow towards that one more year at Bama. I think he would have averaged 15-16 points a game and maybe even a go to person when the game was on the line. If he is a first rounder indeed go get the money.

The lowest I've heard about (projected) is the 4th pick in the 2nd.

My knowledge of who is drafted in the NBA is limited, at best. I do know, with no doubt, it's not about what the player is today. They draft on potential. IE: Brandon isn't Kevin Durant. BUT, he's the mirror image of KD when he was at Texas.

I wish him well if he decides to stay in the draft. I do believe he would be a lottery pick next year if he stayed for another year of college. If you are a sure fire 1st rounder, I have no problem with someone’s leaving. Clowney rebounds well and is above average on defense. The area he needs to work on IMO is his offensive play. Best wishes in whatever he decides to do.

I think the teams/NBA draft grades are a good idea for people to declare and get an idea. I also think those grades are more accurate than the "experts" and give the person a better feeling of their position.

This kind of parallels the Primo jump from 2 years ago... a kid that was signed, but was never really expected to be a one-and-done. But, Primo/Clowney blew up during the season and the pro potential was obvious, so they ended up squarely on the NBA radar. If Clowney goes in round 1, and I bet he will based on potential, then that would be 2 guys in 3 years that Oats has done that with. That is the start of pattern, and something that would be used to Alabama's advantage on the recruiting trail when development is brought up.

I hate to see Clowney leave, but you can’t hold a kid back when talking about that much money, a little more than $2 million if you fall to the bottom of Round 1. I would’ve loved to have seen him add about 10-15 pounds to his frame and become a little more physical.

A cultural shift in the program drawing national attention. People, rivals, don't like that any more than they did Florida when they were hanging banners under Donovan.

How many consecutive years have we seen a Bama guy go in the first round? Now, we're talking about multiple first rounders, a lottery pick in that midst, coming from a system that mirrors ...

I just hope Quinnerly, Bediako make the right decision if their draft stock is not round one worthy. IMO, it is not. Clowney is the one that could go late first or early second. I still would like for him to return and move on up the board which I feel he would.

In football, players that don't get drafted or free agency now have the option of the XFL or USFL (not that the pay is anywhere close to NFL levels and the longevity of those leagues is still in question). In basketball, players have the option of playing internationally which can be very lucrative (but still not at the NBA level).

Someone soon is going to get him for cheap. What a steal that will be! He'll just...need to be contractually obligated to be fully clothed around people.
