They got called on it, apparently after the fact, and the Reese said he would have to change his jersey number (or the RB would) or he wouldn't be able to play any more offense. I guess it should have been an illegal participation penalty.

I probably shouldn't have said called on it, because that sounds like they were penalized, which they were not. The announcers said Ole Miss was notified by the officials that he couldn't play offense again until he or the RB changed jerseys.

It would have been permissible if the other player was not a RB also, and of course they could not be on the field at the same time. New rule prevents duplicate numbers being used by players at the same position. Rule was aimed at LSU. Among others, Miles had 3 players wearing #30 last season and all listed as PKs. Most likely one of them was a RB or WR to be used on fake FG plays.

That would definitely be a win for State. Close to home and there is a pretty big contingent of cow bell ringers in this area.
