🏈 Nick Saban in mid-season form

Seems abusive to me. What’s next?

Yep! Coach will be retiring very soon! Wouldn't be surprise if he decided to just pack up after the A Day game!! WHERE IS MY DAMN SARCASM EMOJI?

I love the fact he is in midseason form right now!!! Good to see that fire still burning deep in his belly!!!

I'll point out that he's yelling at the guy who is simulating the offensive receiver. He didn't release to the inside so the DB could read it properly (read and react).

Reminds me of myself my first Fall camp there at UA with Homer Smith coaching QBs. I screwed up his drill a time or two because I was nervous as a cat and he kept calling me Lefty Gomez. It pissed me off, so I told him my name wasn't Gomez. He told me politely to "stop fucking up my drill and I'll learn your name!" Good times!!!

A bad look, for sure. So long as there are enough quality recruits willing to endure such treatment, then so be it.

If students fail to understand something so much that it's frustrating the teacher, then guess what? It's the teacher's fault. Saban should take responsbility for his own failure in adequately conveying what the player should do. So long as the player is giving full effort and desires to do the correct thing, that's all you can demand from a player.

No offense, as it is just my opinion.

But, I feel like I wouldn't have to focus so much on trying to teach and instill resiliency into young adults/Soldiers, if the prevailing culture in the US for the last generation and half did not feel or raise their children in the beliefs you expressed.

CNS wasn't being abusive. He gave direction and it wasnt followed. With no further context, it's impossible to know how many other screws occurred before that one. He explained what was supposed to happen, what did happen, and why it was important to the drill. He even asked if he was understood. The player's response was inaudible, but obviously was negative or excuse driven vs owning his screw up and it prompted a "kiss my ass" response. Then CNS moved on and reset the drill for retraining.

No need to be sensitive. Own your mistakes and move on. It was a teaching moment on a couple of levels.

Have you EVER played football?

Haha what beliefs of mine exactly? That tantrums are unacceptable forms of communication? That you take responsibility for your behavior when you lose your composure and don't stay poised? That human performance improves more when you feel secure, loose, and confident?

CNS wasn't being abusive.
Don't let leader worship change ordinary vocabulary. And let's not pretend that coaches don't routinely use psychological abuse and other manipulative tactics with their players. Doesn't mean it's justified.

No need to be sensitive.
I agree. Tell that to Coach, who was clearly being too sensitive to a player's mistake.

Own your mistakes and move on. It was a teaching moment on a couple of levels.
I agree. I hope someone points this out to Saban and he learns and moves on. By the way, I've been proud of his improved temperament over the years. I want to give him credit in that regard.

Stop it. Please just stop. Some kids react better to a pat on the back and soothing tone. Some kids react better to a foot in their ass. It's human nature and the great coaches are those that can feel out who needs what. Regardless, every single person that has ever played football has had their ass chewed. That was an ass chewing. I had a coach once tell me I was my parent's biggest mistake because I went through the wrong gap and ran head first into another tackle. THAT is my definition of "verbal abuse" (and said coach did apologize), not "kiss my ass" at an attempt at making excuses instead of just saying "yes sir" and getting back to it.

This. ^^^

Ive spent a career around great leaders it's hardly leader worship. The true art of emotional control and emotional intelligence is not always being the steady stoic leader. It's the use of emotion at the right time, for the right purpose, at the Right audience to achieve the effect that you want. I guarantee you the vast majority of that roster respond to the foot in the butt over the pat on the back. I also guarantee you that CNS provides plenty of pats on the back as well ... they just don't make the news real.
