🏈 New Uniforms

Even if we did, it wouldn't be done in as stark of a contrast to our traditional uniforms. The biggest difference in the unis when we did wear the Pro Combat version was the American flag on the right sleeve.

It is interesting that so many teams have used designs on their gloves. The first time I recall anything like it was in 2009 with Mark. Now, it's become almost a staple in team attire.

While this is a "new uniform" title, the number of uniform changes this season with some very traditional schools put it in a different category than the ones suggesting crimson pants, white helmets, etc.

Nebraska, Notre Dame, and Penn State, just to name a few, are schools I never expected to see make such a dramatic change—even if it is only for one game.

Terry,

To a couple of your points; I do think the glove thing caught on after Mark Ingram against Texas. I had never seen it before then and thought it was cool and new that night. I have also seen a lot of the high school kids with designer gloves. It's cool that Alabama has become relevant with the kids again. I was afraid we lost the kids after the Stallings era and before CNS.

On the traditional uniforms; what the hell is Notre Dame thinking? With the exception of the use of a green jersey, the Notre Dame uniform wreaked tradition. I cannot believe the atrocity of a uniform they agreed to wear this year. The Longhorns, OU and Bama are still going traditional for the most part and I am so glad.

Birdman37,

I agree! Break out the BAMA pro combat once a year. It is so subtle, it's the best! Love the American flag on the sleeve.

The Texas game wasn't the first game he broke it out. But, I can't recall which game it was...do you recall?

And, it seemed like both hands together formed the script A...do I recall that correctly?

I'd look...but don't have the time tonight...

In my opinion Notre Dame sees itself at a crossroads. They are dangerously close to slipping into perpetual mediocrity. They probably see the uniform thing as part of an effort to attract the talent at a time of great need.

Google Rick Reilly and Notre Dame...his article in the last week is a good one.

That's something I wish I would have heard. Any idea if they have it archived?

Here ya go. In my opinion Golic takes it so personally that he misses the entire point of what Reilly is trying to say.

And here's Reilly's response to Golic:
