Illinois beats Penn State and Wisconsin back-to-back and is 5-1 overall and still doesn't crack the top ten in either poll -- and is still ranked behind Wisconsin in the coaches poll.

I never thought I'd say this, I wish the BCS poll would hurry up and come out.

I would figure after two embarrassing showings against Florida, Ohio State was done for a few years in the polls, but apparently they are lucky this year because all the other contenders have a loss right now.

What makes me mad is that USC is still in the top 10 after losing to Stanford. That would garner any other team a trip straight to unranked.

Yes sir! They lose to the worst team in there conf. and still in the top 10..

ummm, not exactly, Florida (4) lost to unranked Auburn last week...and Florida only fell to (9) the following week.

Aubie is lightyears ahead of Stanford in terms of... pretty much everything. While Auburn has lost twice this year, in hinesight it only lost one game it shouldn't have (USF is ranked in the top 5 and Aubie played them better than any other team to date). So Florida should be given a little credit because it lost to a quality foe. Furthermore, UF was supposed to lose to LSU, the fact they actually led most of game made me feel like they were the 2nd best team in the SEC.

On the otherhand, USC was a 40+ favorite on Stanford. If Stanford were a Division II school they probably wouldn't even win their conference, much less a D-II championship. Stanford beating USC should be seen as, and treated like Michigan losing to Appy State. I think anything higher than 15th is giving USC way too much credit.

fact of the matter is that Stanford beat USC, it doesn't matter where you think they fit or what the point spread was...Standford won.

besides, the question is out of all the other folks in the top 20, where does USC fit. personally, I think they are better than USF and a few others in the top 10, even with the loss to Stanford.

I totally do not understand how it works. Wisconsin was ranked 5 and lost to Illionis and dropped to ranked 20. While that, USC lost to Stanford and USC only dropped to ranked 10 from ranked 1.

USC should drop to ranked 15 - 25 or out instead of being ranked 10 since USC lost to the worst team.

they are polls that people vote on, so they will always be in question (in my opinion). hence the reason for the bcs ranking system.

the only thing to really know is that USC is the media darling of the decade.

Florida is the 2nd best team in the SEC.

That second part is pretty ludicrous.

I don't know how much Harbaugh has improved Stanford, but the statement that Stanford might not win their conference if they were DII would have been accurate in recent years.

Stanford was 6-17 over the last 2 seasons and one of their losses was actually to D2 UC Davis. Last season they were 1-11, scored 127 points on the year, and gave up 377...that is an average of 10-31! I don't know where they would have finished in the D2 polls, but I doubt that they would have been top 10 in D1AA.

Florida is a really good team. I was impressed with Haden and their other young guys on defense. Tebow is an animal who is easy to hate, but I would want him on my team. Their offense is very hard to stop and Harvin seems like he could break off a big play anytime. I hope they slip up and do not make it Atlanta. Considering how young they are, I think Urban Meyer, if he sticks around, will have Florida in the top 5, for the next several years.

I'm a firm believer that coaches make a lot of difference. Stanford has had tough times after Tyrone left, but I think they have their man.

After you posted those stats, I did realize they were a lot worse than I thought. But I just don't believe they wouldn't win a D2 conference...it's a whole new world IMHO.
