yeah, it have to be 25-30 years ago that I was there, I'd imagine its not around anymore.

Same here in terms of years.

Although, the BBQ place my family always hit was Whitt's. That may have been in Athens where my grandparents lived...or along 72 somewhere.

I tell ya this.

Carolina BBQ S.U.C.K.S.

I don't know, I love me some Carolina sauce if it's made by someone who knows what they are doing. I love that vinegar base.
There's actually two Carolina sauces. One most commonly referred to as an East Carolina base—vinegar—and a South Carolina base which is a mustard base. It's the later I'm around all the time, and the later I can't stand.

The East Carolina sauce's origin is really from North Carolina.

Actually, there's three now that I think about it. The last one coming from the Piedmont area and it's also referred to as a West Carolina sauce. It's about the same as the East, but with tomato sauce/paste or sometimes ketchup used to cut down on the bite.

If you want a historical perspective, you can usually find some being cooked or at least talked about here at the Slave Market. You find someone from a Gullah heritage...you're set.

Mustard base sounds nasty. I like mustard on some sandwiches, but not as a barbecue sauce base.

I make a vinegar based white sauce that made Big Bob Gibson contract a hit on me.

:stick: We're going to garnish your wages if you don't share the recipe! :icon_evil:

OK, maybe just the main ingredients? I'm assuming white wine vinegar, sugar, lemon juice, salt, pepper, and mayo to start?

Kinda, sorta. I was gonna post it on my cooking blog and my wife caught me and flipped out like she caught me in the sack with Rosie Odonnel or some such crime against humanity. She has visions of selling it. I didn't start getting it until the people that i used to work with in GA started putting on everything from pork to pizza.
