The N.C.A.A. is conducting a wide-ranging investigation into the University of Tennessee’s football recruiting practices, according to interviews with several prospects, their family members and high school administrators. A significant part of the investigation is focused on the use of recruiting hostesses who have become folk heroes on Tennessee message boards for their ability to help lure top recruits.

It's a staff full of foulmouthed scumbags, it was only a matter of time until something of this nature occured.

With that being said, I saw a picture of some of them and it was indeed an unfair advantage.

Former UGA QB, Buck Belue (sp?), has said more than once that the Bama Belles were one of his fondest recruiting memories and you can tell he's being very sincere. LOL! That was, of course, 1977, '78?

It is a very strong statement that the NCAA is talking to recruits about these violations before the class ever signs. Wow! Is this to let these players know, in advance, that UT may get the hammer? I'm not used to this level of being proactive from this organization. Typically, they are the "fall on your own sword" kind of outfit and then they just shove it in a little further. UT sounds like they are really in some deep doo doo.

Forgive me Father for I (may) have sinned...but this strikes me as treading into waters where there is not a clear understanding as to what is allowed or not. That is to say, that Kiffin is pushing the edge where the "letter of the Law" may not have been breached, but the "spirit of the law" was. Those type of situations usually result is a letter telling the school to stop and a tweak/clarification to the rule book.

When those changes happen in recruiting, don't that call that a "Saban Rule"?

A familiar name showed up in the article.

On Thursday, the N.C.A.A. will visit the high school of JaWuan James, who has orally committed to Tennessee. He attends North Gwinnett High in Georgia.
James’s mother, Nichelle Mickens, said the visit regarded Tennessee’s hostesses.
ā€œIt’s not about the coaches,ā€ she said. ā€œIt’s about some of the attendees of the university. It has to do with the hostesses on these visits. That’s as much as I know.ā€

There are a lot of other schools that should pay attention to this matter. It's not just at Tennessee that it's going on.

Man, the level of manipulation that some people are willing to go to in order to get that next big "star" is never shocking. It's always creative, but never shocking.
