What's the thought of the average Bama fan on this kid's time at Bama? Griff Redmill said the other day that he's largely been a bust. I don't remember him as a recruit/frosh but it seems it was thought he was supposed to be a great TE? He said watching MW in camp made him think he had all the skills and physical gifts to be a monster and stopped just short of calling him a flop.

Has he been more a victim of the depth chart or an actual problem? Seems like Bama has been fairly solid at TE lately.

I am not at all trying to flame or be "that guy." I tend to think he's been a victim of very good play in front of him that limited his opportunities. I'd never heard anyone complain about him. Am I that out of touch?

I'll take a stack of pancakes with that opinion...tell him to share it with his posse.

Both have similar backgrounds in the point they were defensive lineman who ended up on the offensive line.

I'd be curious as to what he considers a bust. How is that defined in his eyes? Does he use the performance of the offensive line in 2000 as a barometer? If so, I'll give him this. He knows what it feels like to be a part of a bust.

Michael is entering his senior year. As part of our Ace formation he's primarily a blocking tight end. Hmm, let's see how that has ended up. He's been a part of the least penalized offensive line in his time at Bama. He's been a part of the leading rushing unit in the SEC as a Jr. in that TE position. The offense with the fewest sacks allowing in 2011? Oh chit! Here we go again! It's the OL that Williams has been a part of.

Well damn. Here I am becoming a little lost for words. Where is it he hasn't done his job?

Griff may have a high opinion of the job he did as a Jr. If he has one for his senior year, it's a delusion. In fact, even though he may have a high opinion of his time as a junior playing left guard I might remind him of one fact. It was Chris Samuels that Alexander was running behind, not Redmill.

So I guess I'm going to fall into the category as one who thinks Williams has done his job. Sure, he still has his senior year in front of him so there's another year to judge him by...but, I can say this without a doubt.

Redmill did not do his job his senior year. It hardly gives him room to talk. I suspect the point Travis Reier gave him a voice on 247 may have gone to his head. It would be his MO.

Williams came in as a 4-star (rivals 5.9). This will be his 3rd year being our blocking TE...I don't think he's been a bust at all. But, at the same time I never had the perception that he would come in and be the next Jason Witten either.

I don't know what his draft prospects are right now, and I guess it probably depends on how he performs this upcoming season, but I would think that he would be a Mid-Late round draft pick. His blocking is pretty solid, but he's not someone who is going to rack up a whole bunch of YAC...but then again, I don't think anyone who knows what they're talking about have ever expected that from him. He serves his purpose on the team, and does it pretty well...and (knock on wood) stays out of trouble.

Definitely not a bust. The only thing that everyone seems to point at is last years LSU game when Eric Reid stripped the ball from him. His blocking has been solid and come up with some clutch catches on 3rd down. Now he may not win the Mackey Award but I bet he will use that "strip" in the LSU game as motivation and really have a good season due to the fact that many teams will have to respect the other WR's, especially if we have Duran Carter (not likely though).

Definitely not a bust! MW has performed his duties very well. Has he had a season where he has caught 40 balls, no but that isn't the MO for our TEs. He probably doesn't have 40 for his career.

That's the thing. In our system, taking last year as example, that was Brad's role.

lol at the thought of Griff Redmill calling someone a "bust"

Set me off a bit...

i can't tell you how many times i've giggled watching MW seal off the DE or LB on a running play and just make them look weak. he's done a great job for Alabama. as for his catching skills... i can't say that i've seen him drop an excessive number of throws either.... even though he's not a primary target.

TP......don't think for a minute I didn't catch the stack of pancakes comment. pure awesomeness. I remember reading articles about that 2000 team and hearing them being referred to as the pancake posse'. The lead up to the 2000 season was like having Jessica Biel say that she would go to prom with you, only to have Donatella Versace show up and be your escort. Talk about a let down......
