🏀 Men's Basketball Set to Square Off Against In-State Rival Auburn Tuesday

Pearl's team took down LSU. They are improving. Who saw that coming, huh. If Grant continues coaching the Tide, he better get Pearl this year. It might not happen again for a long, long time.

As bad as I hate to say it, CBP will own the state in recruiting. Bama needs do more than just show up tomorrow.
I am not so much concerned with Pearl as a recruiter as with Pearl as a guy who gets his team to play their guts out. That is what we need to be doing. I would really like to see Grant get really intense, take off the jacket to his 600 suit and fire it to the floor like Wimp used to do. I would be shocked if I saw him do it though.

I too would like to see a little fire in the belly of the players and Grant. Too bad everyone knows it would be just for show. I doubt seriously Grant would throw the jacket to his $6000 Armani suit to the floor like Wimp. I honestly think Wimp used to buy those ugly ass jackets at a thrift store just so he had something to throw!!

Wimp said it became such a trademark for him that everywhere he went, people would give him ugly plaid jackets. Those were some good years for Bama basketball. I like the plaid pattern they put in center court at Coleman back then.

The guys actually played pretty well, relaxed and with a lot of poise. The final margin reflects the relative talent difference in the two teams. Officiating crappy, called it like it was a formal dance instead of a college basketball game.

if u watched the opening tip after he undercut Jimmy Taylor to get the tip Bowers also threw and elbow at him but he just missed. Should have been T'd up for that too. Ill never understand a kid that plays as terrible as he did tonight and then flex over one play that was really nothing special at all.

That seems to be the entirety of his game. I have not seen him comment, but I am sure that Charles Barkley is very amused at the comparison of Bowers to himself. Other than the physical resemblance, no similarity. The comparison can be done when Bowers has actually accomplished something.

Alabama earns sweep of Auburn

Cecil Hurt

AUBURN | After Alabama's last-second win over Auburn last month, many experts guaranteed that the rematch would be a different story.

And it was. This time, it wasn't close.

Alabama poured in 46 second-half points and pulled away from the Tigers, 79-68, completing the season sweep and raising coach Anthony Grant's record against the Tigers to 9-3 in his UA tenure.

The Crimson Tide took the lead for good with 15:19 to play, as Rodney Cooper scored on a 3-point play to put UA ahead, 48-46, and ignite a 7-0 run. UA shot 60 percent in the second half and led by as many as 13 points down the stretch.

Levi Randolph led the Crimson Tide with 19 points and Retin Obasohan, back after a hand injury, had a breakout game with 16.

"I was really proud of our team," Alabama coach Anthony Grant said. "We showed a lot of heart and I am especially glad for our seniors, Levi and Coop. These guys every single night do what I ask them to do.

"Retin comes every single night with great effort, and he was ready for the opportunity tonight."

Grant drew his first technical foul of the year in the first half, but even that seemed to be effective.

"I didn't think I deserved it, but these guys really rallied around me, calmed me down," Grant said. "I was proud of how we responded."

"We just stressed to come out with great energy and effort and that's what we did," Randolph said. "Another thing we stress is rebounding, and that came down to the way we practiced."

Alabama got off to a solid start, shooting well and building a lead as large as six points when Shannon Hale hit a 3-pointer with 6:31 remaining in the first half. The Crimson Tide offense slowed, though, largely due to turnovers. Auburn, powered by Antoine Mason's scoring, ended the half on a 16-7 run and took a 36-33 lead at the half.

But the Tigers had no defensive answer for Alabama in the second half.

"It starts with me," said Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl. "We didn't have a good game plan. It was as bad as we have played in a while and Alabama had something to play. They're very athletic, very strong and they were a hard matchup for us.

"It's a game that sticks with you all summer long that we weren't able to beat them."

I really liked the pace we played on offense most of the game. We pushed the ball and looked for open shots more so last night. We ran into a scoring lull when we slowed down the tempo a couple of times. Personally, I'd rather watch us take the ball up and down the floor and lose than to run that crappy offense and get off (maybe) a last second shot. Glad the boys came to play last night, it was actually fun to watch.
