📡 McNair: CFP Selection Committee needs restructuring

Once it goes to 12 teams I see little reason to have a committee at all. Use something like the BCS model to determine the top teams available after the conference champions are determined and put them in. No need for anyone to argue for or against a certain team.
Eye test is something ghe computers cant figure. Even if they disregarded this year .. Use the models. Use the polls. And finalized by committee

Why not just make it simple? There are 10 D1 Conferences. So, only the conference champions go to the playoffs. Notre Dame will just have to put on their big girl panties and join a conference. The playoff match ups can be done by final season rankings.

You'd end up with a meaningless post season to go along with the meaningless regular season. Why not?

Nothing McNair said incriminates the CFP Committee. Instead it shows you what a racket CONFERENCE TITLE GAMES ARE!

The ACC champ lost handily to Tennessee, who didn’t play in their conference title game.

The Big XII champ lost handily to Alabama, who didn’t play in their conference title game.

The Big Ten champ lost to TCU, who lost their conference title game.

The Pac 12 champ lost handily to Penn St, who didn’t play in their conference title game.

The SEC Champ needed a missed field goal in the final seconds to beat Ohio State, who didn't play in their conference title game.

Hell, the committee even admitted 2 teams into the play off who didn't win their conference anyway.

The fact is when you give teams several weeks to prepare for bowls, you disrupt the rhythm of the season. We need to award conference titles like we did before conference title games (a blend of conference records and rankings). Then we should give conference champions home field advantage in the early rounds of the 12 team playoff. Expanding the play off to 12 teams (which I don't favor) will demand we end frivolous conference title games to preserve the importance of the regular season and avoid excess injuries to rosters.

Because all leagues, and especially all schedules, are not even close to being the same.I have always liked the idea of having 6 teams. 1st 2 get byes.3 vs 6 +4 vs 5 play. Then go at it. To me the rankings would been(all based on what a team deserves, earns,SOS,eye test, talent level, and their ceiling) Would have been/should have been:
1)Ga
2)Michigan
3)Alabama
4)TCU
5)LSU
6)Tenn
Ga checks off 5/6. Michigan 5/6. Alabama 4/6. TCU 4/6 LSU 4/6 Tenn 4/6
We have to quit putting teams in the CFP based on record and/or because 1 team has less losses than another. Again leagues and schedules are NOT the same. If LSU plays ohio's or Michigan's schedule how many games do they lose. Or if Tenn plays TCU's sched. how many games do they lose.?.....Or Alabama?
An ohio state did not earn a right to be in the CFP's.They definitely didnt deserve it. They beat teams who were 63-70 in the regular season. Their SOS was in the 40's and should have been higher. They definitely have talent(Much more than any other team in the league-yet still got waxed 28-3 by UM the 2nd half). A person could say they pass the eye test and their ceiling is high. Yet they have lost 5 times in their last 27 games by an avg of 43-28. They have given up 216 points in these 5 games and 2676 yards(535 a game on average)...Why do they continually get rewarded by dominating the average to poor teams in a league that saw 1/2 the league(the west) have a combined losing record and 11 teams combined out of the 14 had a record of 62-71?

Yet. The best team bama beat ( before bowls)was 7-4...
And uga playing in SECe is equivalent to ACC...
I doubt bama passed eye test in many mines...

Alabama beat a talented 8-4 Texas on the road in the most hostile home environment I saw all year. Doesnt matter how. They beat up a very talented 8-4 Mississippi State team at home.Basically shut out a 4000 yard passer. The most telling thing I saw was when they beat a talented 8-1 Ole Miss team on the road and the lack of respect it received from the CFP committee.Yea,Ole Miss stumbled home. It is very easy to get going sideways in that conference and lose 3 in a row to a Bama,LSU,and Miss St...Yet at the time it was a helluva win..These 3 teams were all more talented than KState and would have all gave outfits like PSU+ND all that they would want and more. And I think there were 4 teams at the least in the SECe who were better than anyone in the ACC.

Ok

7-4...8-4....
Texas didnt prove to be a great win at all...and lost starting QB that was killing bama...so...and Texas...crowd may be ok..it aint not BR or Knoxville...or even AU or A$M...
Ole ms ..very good win...at time was a motivated team

"4 teamsin SECw that wasbetter than an ACC team...". Really...better than
Clemson and FSU...even though one in SECw lost to fsu...

Whatever...
