Because all leagues, and especially all schedules, are not even close to being the same.I have always liked the idea of having 6 teams. 1st 2 get byes.3 vs 6 +4 vs 5 play. Then go at it. To me the rankings would been(all based on what a team deserves, earns,SOS,eye test, talent level, and their ceiling) Would have been/should have been:
1)Ga
2)Michigan
3)Alabama
4)TCU
5)LSU
6)Tenn
Ga checks off 5/6. Michigan 5/6. Alabama 4/6. TCU 4/6 LSU 4/6 Tenn 4/6
We have to quit putting teams in the CFP based on record and/or because 1 team has less losses than another. Again leagues and schedules are NOT the same. If LSU plays ohio's or Michigan's schedule how many games do they lose. Or if Tenn plays TCU's sched. how many games do they lose.?.....Or Alabama?
An ohio state did not earn a right to be in the CFP's.They definitely didnt deserve it. They beat teams who were 63-70 in the regular season. Their SOS was in the 40's and should have been higher. They definitely have talent(Much more than any other team in the league-yet still got waxed 28-3 by UM the 2nd half). A person could say they pass the eye test and their ceiling is high. Yet they have lost 5 times in their last 27 games by an avg of 43-28. They have given up 216 points in these 5 games and 2676 yards(535 a game on average)...Why do they continually get rewarded by dominating the average to poor teams in a league that saw 1/2 the league(the west) have a combined losing record and 11 teams combined out of the 14 had a record of 62-71?
