🏈 Malzahn to Vandy

This is suprising to me...figured he would wait for a better offer....it is Vandy afterall.
unless he is getting out before the NCAA pitchforks show up???

and this could be the beginning of the excuses after they get a good Ducking in glendale

I think he knows his stock is as high as it will ever get being an assistant. If he goes to Vandy and can upset a team or two and go bowling.....then look out, someone better will come along and beat his reported ~3 million dollar a year deal.

7 years, 3 mil a year i hear. vandy broke out the checkbook. That is a great deal, vandy is not a team with unrealistic expectations, so as long as malzhn maintains a solid team, hes got job security.

I know why they call it that. But why not just call it the NC game. it is what it is. No need to put an asterik on it. nobody here called it the MNC last year.

I have always seen it as MNC. I dont think the above poster meant that as a slam towards AU. Honestly, I agree just call it the NC but like I said, I have always seen it as the MNC.

Several outlets reporting this isn't confirmed, including Vanderbilt.

The 3 mil/year figure includes incentives and such--that isn't the base salary. I was FLOORED when I saw that offer. I could never see Vandy promising three mil/year!

Not that it really matters, but I usually call it the MNC. Crap tons of boards call it that. It is where I picked it up from, just internet banter. Until we have a +1 or play off, a MNC is all it will ever be.

Duder now the link is confirming what you are saying. Nothing is set in stone as of yet.

With Vandy spending that much on a head coach, it'll be interesting to see how much they are willing to pay assistants. Word is that was a big reason Bobby Johnson left -- and he wasn't making anywhere near what Malzahn is going to get.

I'm still shocked they offered that much. Granted, it is pretty incentive-heavy but that's still a lot of money.

Something must not have felt right to Malzahn at first for some reason, he's turned it down a couple of times and is now mulling over a "much sweeter offer". I can't say I'd blame him for going but he has to look at it as a springboard if he goes, and he'll have to do something and get out quick.

I agree Duder. If I'm in his shoes I do like some of the other coaches you hear about. I take some of my own salary and boost the pay of my assistants. Be sure to have a good supporting staff so that you can win and get the heck out of dodge.

I agree with you. I see it all the time on other boards. I dont seem to recall seeing it here last year. Everyone referred to it as the BCSCG. Now because its Auburn or another team besides your own its MNC. This is one of the beautiful additions to our vocabulary due to the internet and message boards.

A funny side story though: A family friend played DLine at Georgia Southern during their run where they won two titles and were runner up once in his four years there. We were at a bar and he's wearing his two time National Champions ring. Big stones, nice looking ring and you couldnt miss it. This guy at the bar finally gets up enough liquid courage and asks our buddy hey what is that ring for. D says its for the national champonship when I was in college. The guy is like really, what school. D responds Georgia Southern. The guy says oh, thats not a real national championship. D changes his tone, NO, that IS the only National Championship in college football.

I've referred to it as MNC for years. Go back and look at some of the dual championship years - talk about mythical. I mean seriously, what gives BCS the right to select 2 teams to play for the crystal ball...I hate the system and want a 16 team playoff.

bowl games are stupid, areas get to select who they want, i mean really 6 wins and you qualify...what a joke.

I may be wrong, but if Malzahn does take the Vandy job and can have some money to hire some good assts., I think he can do well there by Vandy standard. And use it to get a bigger job. His style of offense was originally designed for just such situations as he'll have at Vandy. Somewhere you have only one or 2 big time players, you spread the field and get them the ball in space to make plays.
