🏈 🔎 Lookin ahead to Indiana (DeBoer Rose Bowl press conference.)

They've intentionally set aside some extra portal money for both OL and DL... we'll see how it shakes out. Those 2 spots don't come cheap, especially good DL. As of today, I think we'll see a change at OL coach too.
1 reason why I think we need DL coaching change - we don’t appear fundamentally sound. I can’t think of any time this year that I saw a d-lineman put his hands up & tip a pass. Stuff like that is TAUGHT.

I was surprised Saban never made the change honestly, but there was a thick layer of loyalty involved there... even enough to get Roach held over onto the new staff. I will say I thought there was some improvement there this season, but it could be better. Roach is extremely well liked by the players though, which is a bit like a having a life preserver for a coach.

Nick had his loyalty to. He liked the DC that went to ole ms ( Golding ) Thats all that matters. Who the Hc feels comfortable with and trust.
Sure KD is same. Regardless what we think.
But can be loyal to a fault where it ends like someof Shula s. Take you down with em

True. I was just pointing out one area
You mentioned a coaching change due to lack of fundamentals was why I was asking. I don't disagree but fundamentals overall were extremely poor imo so where do you stop with changes? Both lines of scrimmage and special teams were the worst, I wouldn't be sad to see all 3 of those replaced. I do think dl had some better games than ol or special teams did so if they kept 1I would think DL. I would love to see fundamentals as a priority.

I hate it was against alabama but I liked watching indiana play ball.

Indiana is a good football team. That being said, Alabama should never be beaten that badly. Talking to a friend (college coach), he told me this morning that bama works zero on fundamentals. After this game , I believe him. It is what it is at this point, spilled milk and all.

Hard for me to believe this. Gotta be some caveat here. I would agree they do not work on it enough but zero on fundamentals is questionable.

I kinda question that Statement ... Don't always believe what you hear from friends.
Yep hyperbole... With that said I do not think it is a stretch to say this team is piss poor on fundamentals otherwise we would be getting different results. Fundamentals are not the only thing that is contributing to the poor results but it is a part of it. That starts with coaching,,,,

I’m sure he was exaggerating, but watch the o-line in particular. Terrible foot work, poor steps, bad leverage, allowing defenders to cross their face. It was bad all season, Indiana really exposed it.
I’ve coached from 5-6 yr olds, to high school and I wouldn’t allow that to happen at any level. My son in law is a former FBS D1 position coach (youngest in the ncaa, at one point) he said the same thing. Also coached with Womack.

Ummmm.

I said this 2 weeks ago...

Indiana was every bit of all that and then some... Cignetti is a weirdo, but sometimes those types of dudes make great coaches (like Harbaugh). He has turned IU into a an absolute machine in just 2 years..... obviously the new age rules of the portal and NIL helped, but he's still pushed all the right buttons including nailing the evaluations like Rain Man at the blackjack table. It's borderline unbelievable.

Re: the game, I'm not at all surprised IU won... Bama was going to have to play clean to even have a chance. I am surprised Bama didn't have a better showing. I think things snowballed in the defense and it just got away from them. But the main issues, again, were on the offensive side of the ball. And we all saw what a team with a threatening run game can do vs. a team without one. That MUST be fixed going forward.

As for Bama... that was an ugly, ugly end to the season... and it's unfortunate on several levels... but a landing like that, bookended with the FSU disaster to start the season off, will cancel out a lot of good that occured in-between. DeBoer is 2 years in at UA and in the SEC now... we saw Bama take some steps in the right direction this season (defense and discipline/penalties for example) but also little to no improvement in other key areas (run game, OL consistency, special teams issues, etc). The margin for error is getting slimmer going forward for DeBoer, who like Cignetti, needs to really hit on the portal evals. He's also got some equally (arguably more important) tough decisions to make regarding his staff. IMO, the decisions me makes over the next 2-3 weeks will likely set the course for his tenure ahead... does he find the path to long term success or not? Maybe that's a bit much with the hyperbole, but it's how I feel as I sit here right now.

THIS^^^^^^^^^ right cheer

JMO and that is he is out of his region. He is not a SEC HC and Alabama is going to pay big dollars for this mistake.

Can recruit seperating him from AU western mistake.... For now.... but... you gotta compete on game day...and not just 80% of time
