🏈 🔎 Lookin ahead to Indiana (DeBoer Rose Bowl press conference.)

You are looking at a school in the context of a game. I'm looking at experience of the players in this game; not what someone did a quarter of a century ago.

Which team will handle the noise better? IU isn't at a disadvantage. UA hasn't shown itself to be able to consistently.
I don't think IU will have issue with this, as most of the fans are IU down there. I'm not looking at this from noise perspective; I'm looking at this from who has experience handling adversity on the road on a neutral site. Who's more motivated? Who want it bad?

Its the game. These players.
History is for talking heads

Special teams. Field position
Sure dont want to fall behind.
.... But....
Thats the game.
On rainy wet field.
....&......
Who knows that will go

...& that 30 day layoff for IU.....????

I still give bama a huge advantage in playing in tough situations. Special teams scare me. Dont know how good IUs are. Know ours though

Pretty sure Cigneti fits the CNS mold and is never satisfied. CKD is always positive and upbeat. Did that even before losses. Just different personalities.

These two reports to me hold very little significance. Just an opinion of course based on observations of the two coaches styles/history.
Saban has always been upfront about how the team practice in week leading to the game.

They remind me of some early Saban teams, although somewhat less talented... physical, well coached... not many mistakes. Just sound, fundamental MTAQ type football. QB is a playmaker who gets the most out of his abilities and has been battle tested.

Indiana was every bit of all that and then some... Cignetti is a weirdo, but sometimes those types of dudes make great coaches (like Harbaugh). He has turned IU into a an absolute machine in just 2 years..... obviously the new age rules of the portal and NIL helped, but he's still pushed all the right buttons including nailing the evaluations like Rain Man at the blackjack table. It's borderline unbelievable.

Re: the game, I'm not at all surprised IU won... Bama was going to have to play clean to even have a chance. I am surprised Bama didn't have a better showing. I think things snowballed in the defense and it just got away from them. But the main issues, again, were on the offensive side of the ball. And we all saw what a team with a threatening run game can do vs. a team without one. That MUST be fixed going forward.

As for Bama... that was an ugly, ugly end to the season... and it's unfortunate on several levels... but a landing like that, bookended with the FSU disaster to start the season off, will cancel out a lot of good that occured in-between. DeBoer is 2 years in at UA and in the SEC now... we saw Bama take some steps in the right direction this season (defense and discipline/penalties for example) but also little to no improvement in other key areas (run game, OL consistency, special teams issues, etc). The margin for error is getting slimmer going forward for DeBoer, who like Cignetti, needs to really hit on the portal evals. He's also got some equally (arguably more important) tough decisions to make regarding his staff. IMO, the decisions me makes over the next 2-3 weeks will likely set the course for his tenure ahead... does he find the path to long term success or not? Maybe that's a bit much with the hyperbole, but it's how I feel as I sit here right now.

On the money.
We will see in regards to staff. Gotta see STs is a bust. OL sux. RBs are weak.
If these aren't fixed. Pencil in a 8-4 for 26

On the other side. KD looks shellschocked at play of team. Doesn't he see it from week to week. Didn't he look at sec championship game film. Looks mystified at times

He's not a dumb guy. I think people read way too much into his sideline demeanor and his coach speak when there is a mic in front of him. All coaches, especially successful, seem to have some degree of stubborness in them, but I can assure you (everyone)... this idea that some have of DeBoer... that he's a deer in the headlights type bumbling fool isn't grounded in reality.

Definitely not dumb. Sure. Knows plenty

But " deer in headlights "
Sure looks puzzled as to why things are happening. Has that look

And believe he is determined to be successful at bama.
Not the easiest of places following NS

But we shall see.
Has had a roster stocked with talent. And is a dandy recruiter.
And has had great success. And great failures.
None worse than today. But several. Many severals

His history will be ... where does he go from here. Recognize needs. Problems. Shortage and fix. Or slap a bandage on and keep on trucking.
No run game. Poor STs. Poor RB play. Poor OL play Aint gonna cut it.

I keep hearing about what a great job Courtney Morgan is doing/has done. May need to focus on some Defensive/offensive linemen. Damned sure need to focus on some coaches in that area.

They've intentionally set aside some extra portal money for both OL and DL... we'll see how it shakes out. Those 2 spots don't come cheap, especially good DL. As of today, I think we'll see an change at OL coach too.
